Be fair EX, without using a name I have said exactly who one of my sources is.
I know. I never give my sources away either, but if you honestly believe that Bowden has not been considered that says a lot about our program
What it says is that we don't want to take a risk on a quitter who has been out of the game for the past decade. Remember, he walked away from his players in the middle of the season. I don't care how much crap he was allegedly taking from Louden and other boosters (and how much of it he brought on himself), you don't walk away from these kids in the middle of the season. As much as I don't like the coaching carousel of job shifting after a season ends, it is still better than quitting on the team in the middle of the season. That is the absolute last thing the Ponies need. I am not a fan of Turner's attitude towards baggage, but in this instance, I don't want a has-been coach who's also a quitter. Is Bowden a good coach? He may still be, but he has done absolutely nothing to show that he still has the passion, desire, and skills to recruit that he used to have. There are too many "ifs" to be answered with him, making it not worth our time.

Or it says a lot about Bowden.
Given that Georgia Tech was the first school to interview him in nine years (regardless of whether he gets the WVU job), I'm guessing those who say there's more to the anti-Bowden sentiment (among ADs) than has been publicly said. There's a reason he's as appealing to ADs as a frontal lobotomy.

Ex again, it seems like you don't understand the importance of this hire. Bowden is a gamble. Fran is not. He has a staff in place, he has recruiting ties in place and has had success in schools similar to SMU. To me, it seems obvious. I'm not a huge Fran supporter but we are a bottom dweller right now and we would be lucky to get a coach with Frans credentials.

The big advantage to Fran in this whole thing is the ability to recruit right off the bat. We are going to be in the same position as NTSU was last year with a limited recruiting window. I would be willing to bet, however, that Fran could bring in a class comparable to what we have had in the past four years in a limited time frame. In any event, we need to get a coach hired ASAP.

You think Orsini has painted himself into a wall and would like to reverse himself on Bowden?
SMU would be very lucky to get somone like Bowden.
This is possibly the worst football program in the country.
If not @ the bottom, close to it.
....................Not anywhere near the worst now, because Orsini has raised over $12 million to get a new coach etc. Once we hire a good coach, SMU finally has the funds to attract well paid assistant coaches also....Huge Advantage over 1/2 of the Div. 1 schools don't have including alot of BCS schools......I'm not saying the hire will not get screwed up it might, but the big donors are serious about turning this program around !
