Rossley was a solid coach....so not sure why you are trying to belittle him. He took a 1-10 team in the SWC and turned it into 5-6.....that was against real competiton and not the cupcakes we play and get pounded by today. Rossley's teams competed against the likes of ranked schools UCLA, UNC, Arkansas and tied an undefeated Texas A&M......

Rossley also coached the team that crushed U of H after they ran up the score.

I would love to have Rossley coach this team.....get a clue about quality coaches.

it is true that with about 38 lettermen and about 15 4 years starters that Rossley finished 5-6 in his second year. The way it is written is just a tad deceptive. He didn't bring them up to 5-6 against SWC competition. The truth is that in the final few years of the SWC he went 1-19-2 (if you include Arkansas) against traditional SWC competition in his final 22 games. He did not win a single game in SWC in his last 20 or 21 games(can't remember which year Arkansas left)- a truly revealing statistic. Then went 5-6 against the WAC.

I'm not making a claim either for or against Rossley, but I did note that several months ago one of his SMU playbooks was up for auction on eBay. No one bid on it.

BTW, speaking of Coach Fran's former team, I guess they should have "picked" on someone else...

R.C. Slocum was 40-22 in his last five years at A&M and went to four bowls in those five years. Overall, R.C. was 123-47-2 at A&M.

Fran was 32-28 during his five years at A&M and was 0-3 in bowls (excl Alamo).

Fran is 107-81 in Division I. R.C. was 123-47-2 at A&M. R.C. was 34-22 in the Big 12. Fran was 19-21.

Why not hire R.C.? He seems like a much better coach.
