Only one had any offers and they weren't that impressive.

Of course JJ wasn't able to get the stud athletes here to go to UH because of the the distance-I doubt Fran would have had any success recruiting Hawaii kids as well. There is no way to make comparisons here. JJ's name looms large now nationwide. That and his offense will attract recruits in Texas and elsewhere.

that is def'ly the case, his offense and recent history will bring the recruits.

I don't think anyone has said that JJ could recruit Texas as well as Fran, so take your conclusions and shove them up your [deleted]. All I meant about his players is the fact that he does have some contacts in Texas, which is always a good place to start. He has a proven track record of being able to recruit on a shoestring budget to a place, that while it is beautiful, is not known as a football hotbed, and is not the best place to get recognized for the pros. JJ has the personality to recruit, which is half the battle. We all know that he is not the high school coach at NTSU that you have a man crush on, but I think almost everyone on this board except you would rather have JJ than Dodge.

One question I do have for you, however. If you are so disgusted with SMU football and have been for 20 years, as you have made clear in the past, why do you still follow it? Is it so you can go on a message board and say "I told you so?" Are you naive enough to think that your missives are taken to heart inside the coaches offices at the stadium? What drives you to spend so much of your free time following SMU football if it annoys you so much? I cannot imagine the amount of time you spend on a weekly basis wrapped up in recruiting sites and following the whims of 18 year old kids trying to decide their futures, and for the life of me cannot figure out why you would continue to do this.

Lawgrad....

One thing I like about June Jones from the little I have
seen of him is he seems a little kocky and arrogant.

I have a gut feeling that June Jones teamed up with
Orsini....together they would have the balls to put
more pressure where it needs to be applied in placing
SMU on a more even playing field as far as recruiting
restrictions with our natural rivals.

Both Orsini and June Jones seem like the type
of guys you really wouldn't want to be around
if they were angry.

I'm not convinced SMU has a shot at either one of these guys.

If JJ wanted this job (assuming it is true he's been offered), it would be a done deal. My belief is that he will be like others who have been rumored to have used SMU to get what they wanted (a better paying gig elsewhere - in Jones' case, he's simply negotiating the best raise he can to stay where hje really wants to be)

With Fran, I suspect there could be some bitterness towards the AggieS and he may want them to have to pay some severance. Is there any credible evidence to suggest he is actually interested in the SMU job? I think he'd be a great hire, but the combination of "letting the Aggie$ off the hook" and accepting a job where he was clearly way down on the list of candidates - is a lot of ego to check at the door.

well if some of the reports on here are true that Fran will be low-balled on a salary far less than Jones I can just about guarantee you that Fran ain't coming. Its going to have to be in the 1.5-1.7 Million range too-or he will just sit on his nice little buyout. In fact, I think Fran may command more for that reason. We COULD lose both.

Unfair comparison--

PB could recruit 5Stars to TAMU, that's a no-brainer.

Read it again. I said his recruiting at TCU-not even considering his recruiting at A&M. He had the best recruiting classes of all non-BCS schools at TCU.
