There's a BIG difference between living in Hawaii and visiting Hawaii - a little thing called island fever. Visiting is much better.
Also, I heard today that UH has logged about 75,000 miles traveling in the last 5 or 6 years.
It's a beating.

Yeah, they go on 2-3 week road trips multiple times a year and practice wherever they can find on the mainland during those trips. Totally brutal for everyone involved. That also hurts their recruiting--some parents do actually care if their children go to class!

Jones went to UH.

Coach Fran did it when he left a winning Univ. of New Mexico for 1 win TCU.

My nephew was offered by the Hawaii basketball team last year and he turned them down because his of the distance. Also because of culture adjustments.

Give the man a chance to breathe for a minute. The plane won't even be on the ground for another 2 1/2 hours. It's barely past the coast.
Let him get on the ground, have a beer, talk to his family. My guess is UH will have until Friday to get a final counteroffer together if he is seriously considering us.

Who cares if he is slowplaying us. At least we are in the mix. Every recruit in the country has heard SMU competing for big name coaches twice in the last month. I am not saying that will help the future recruiting process, but it won't hurt. At least SMU has made a point of saying that they will be taken seriously in college football, and that we are trying to come back. Might open the eyes of some and force them to look at the program.
Whatever we end up with, it is going to be someone with a lot stronger background than anyone we have hired in 20 years.
