2007 Mustang Football Awards

I don't recall seeing this posted before, but I wanted to recognize this year's team for their efforts and, especially to these Award Winners.

Congratulations and many thanks for all the practices, games and commitment to each other. To the seniors, welcome to our world. Best of luck in 2008!

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU football program held its annual Awards Reception on Friday, December 7, in the Umphrey Lee Center on the SMU campus, where Zack Sledge was named Offensive MVP, Will Bonilla was tabbed Defensive MVP and Thomas Morstead earned the Special Teams Award.

Sledge, a Midland, Texas native, recorded the second-best single season in SMU history with 10 TD receptions in 2007, the most-ever for an SMU senior. He finished the year with 49 catches for 729 yards.

Bonilla, a junior from Corpus Christi, excelled in his first season as a starter, tying for the team lead with 82 tackles. He also notched two interceptions and five tackles-for-loss. He had perhaps his best game of the year at Arkansas State, where he recorded a season-high 12 stops.

Morstead, a junior, was a first-team All-Conference USA selection by both the coaches and the media. He led Conference USA and ranked ninth in the nation with a 44.6-yard average on punts and helped the Mustangs rank second in the nation in net punting. His average is third-best in SMU history and helped him make the Ray Guy Award Watch List.

Brad Bradley "New Mustang" Award (Presented To The Most Consistent Freshmen Performers) Justin Smart & Youri Yenga

Wild Horse Club (Presented To The Players Who Exemplify The Spirit Of Wild Mustangs Through Their Outstanding Efforts During The Season) Emmanuel Sanders & Justin Willis

"M" Association Award (Presented To The Player Who Shows The Characteristics Of Hard Work, Determination & Team Spirit Typical Of Lettermen) Cedrick Dorsey

Special Teams Award Thomas Morstead

Mustang Club Award - Offensive MVP Zack Sledge

Mustang Club Award - Defensive MVP Will Bonilla

Lester Jordan Award (Presented To The Senior Letterman Who Is Both Outstanding On The Field And Has The Highest GPAs Over The Last Two Semesters) Andrew Galloway

Mike Kelsey Ward (Presented To The Mustang Who Displayed The Attitude, Hustle & Desire Exemplary Of The Late Mike Kelsey) Zack Sledge

President's Award (Presented To The Mustang Who Contributed Most To The Success Of The Total Football Program) Cory Muse

Don't be a cynic. These guys played our us and each other. Pros we can trash, but not college guys.

i guess you dont know what sarcasm is...i know all these guys played their hearts out and they DO deserve awards, even if they only won 1 game...so calm the F down
