It seems to me that as the Spread Offense continues to gain popularity, defensive formations utilizing more defensive backs are going to become more and more popular, until OCs realise then and start to evolve the offenses to counter it.

That's the best part of Football to me: The continual arms race between offense and defense.

The more that defenses adapt to the Spread and go with more DB's, smaller and faster linemen and backers, the more likely that offenses will go back to adding a fullback and tight end and start going to full out running attacks. The spread is a very close relative to the single wing. Florida's attack is even more single wing focused. The WV spread attack is a modified version of the veer and their FB killed OU last night. They did not have an answer for that kid. I would love to see that attack at SMU with McKinney and Martin playing that role and Mapps and Butler playing the HB. Throw in the option of using your TE like Missouri does and you might have a really good attack. We only have 3 effective receivers so this would be a good fit for SMU. Still don't know how to fix the defense though.

We saw last nite and CUSA this year the counter pendulum begin to turn BACK to the running game. As LBs, DTs DEs get lighter and quicker, a team with a strong running game can now be effective by running the ball at the smaller defenders. Not saying its swung toward the running game but just that more teams can be effective. CUSA had what 3-4 RBs with over 1500 yards?
