In the past I have relayed a story from an Arkansas State alum I met at our game there this year who had jokingly said he wanted them to change their mascot to the "Engines" as a slap in the face to the NCAA. Well the committee at ASU has narrowed the selection down to 3 names and one of the finalists is "Engines". They have offically narrowed it down to a train theme name (Express, A-Train, or Engines), or a Ridge name (Ridge Runners of Ridge Raiders) or the preliminary favorite, Red Wolves.
I would donate to the "Engine" club at ASU if they would choose Engines as their nickname.

Nice to see that the folks in Arkansas still have a sense of humor. That's funny. Hell, I might send 'em a dollar or two, too.

Engines would be funny to replace Injuns. Given that my other alma mater, William and Mary weenied out when the NCAA goons came calling about the feather in their logo, and William and Mary was chartered to teach indiginous peoples of America (aka Indians), I would love to see someone tweak the noses that hold those little pince nez glasses.

Wasn't the group that Uncle Jesse (from the Dukes of Hazard) called the Ridge Raiders? It would also be funny if they selected that mascot and then went with a Dukes of Hazard theme, complete with an authentic General Lee.
The donkey's name is Kiki.
On a side note, anybody need a patent attorney?

My favorite part of that entire ordeal was when the lady at the NCAA who spearheaded the whole ridiculous effort was asked "Why aren't you going after the San Deigo State Aztecs?" and she replied, "Well, I guess it is only about tribes from North America."
Huh? How little sense does that make? We can be as insulting as we want to people from other continents? And I'm sure the people of Mexico were very surprised to find out that they are not in North America!
Idiots. I'm with you Ark St! Go Engines!

W&M is my other alma mater also. And I love wearing my "Year of the Feather" t-shirt from last spring, celebrating the feather before it went away. And, not that the NCAA isn't blindingly stupid and arbitrary, but W&M was stupid in trying to convince the NCAA that "Tribe" was a sort of "Tribe of Humanity" thing with those two Injun feathers sticking out of the logo.
