Greg's post reminded me of another search that lasted forever because of lofty goals in the beginning. I don't remember how long the search went, but when New Mexico set out to replace Gary Colson as men's bball coach, they targeted Bobby Knight...who believe it or not went about as far w/ them as Paul Johnson went with us. Then they shifted to Gene Keady, who didn't give them as much time. They finally "settled" on a guy Coach Knight considered the 2nd best choice (after himself)...and we all know who that was.

There was also the 41 day search to replace Frank Solich at Nebraska. They got played by Houston Nutt worse than SMU did with PJ. It ended up with Bill Callahan. Still, any scenario like that is a step up for SMU, even if we end up with scraps or a Fran/Coker/Barnett. All of whom at least have winning records. Shoot, I might even take Billy C if they put in his contract that Kevin Cosgrove can have no contact with anyone who has ever set foot on the SMU campus!

If we do land Jones, I will concede the master plan worked, but it is a HUGE gamble to take. If he drops out of contention, then what? Someone did mention Brian Bilick :lol:

And does anyone know how much Jones makes out there? They are in a BCS game -- leaving success and life in Hawaii for 1 win SMU on the Hilltop? That SO suitcase better be packed with greenbacks.

Please dont take this the wrong way. I have my Baylor and TCU blowhards busting my chops daily about this....daily. 60 times. Getting....old....

I can understand that you're in a bad position with TCU supporters, but Baylor? Really, Baylor? "Hello, Kettle? Hey, Pot here!"

When was the last time those clowns had a winning football season? Oh, and not to mention their "killer" basketball program?

Maybe, but it's a very big stretch to assume he's arguing from a stronger position when Baylor gets their arse handed to them every weekend, too. It's like he's saying "we suck less". Umm, yeah, but you still suck.
