One unintended consequence I'm hoping that happens is that SMU steals a few of Hawaii's recruits, especially that QB from Katy.

Ha! There were two threads on the UH boards about this. Appeared to be started by one of Fran's marketing people or some insane TCU fan that is still obsessed with Fran.

The Hawaii fans were laughing hysterically about the suggestion! Not a single positive response about it! They don't seem to like him at all.

(And although I am not a fan of Fran, I totally agree he would have been a much better fit at SMU than at Hawaii, if not just for recruiting.)

Get Fran. He is still the same person Alabama and A$M paid millions to. He turned around New Mexico and TCU. He has a strong recruiting pipeline in Texas with tons of talant.
A$M has promised to pay part of his salary!!!!!!!!!!! You could stick the rest of the money into your facilities! This is a no brainer. Fran wants to settle down in a place like Hawaii. Think about it....................

SMU should of hired Fran but their greedy desire to hire the latest thing got in the way of making a wise decision. Now they must suffer the consequences. They could of got Fran for 1/4 of the price and stuck the rest into their facilities. Fran is the same guy that Alabama and A$M paid millions for. Fran turned around New Mexico and TCU. The whole charcater issue with Fran is a sham. Fran had a website at TCU because he thought it was a neat idea. The A$M AD turned on him and used whatever he could to discredit Fran. Fran would of turned A$M around.

JJ does not know how to recruit Texas. Book it. SMU will have to comprimise it's academic standards to help JJ out. This will cause resentment down the road.

SMU had a chance to really put it to TCU. Fran would of taken all the good recruits from TCU. We all know Fran is an amazing recruiter. If SMU would of hired Fran it would of thrown TCU and their coach for an emotional loop as well as hurt TCU's recruiting. JJ will look like a deer in headlights when he goes into these Texas recruits schools and homes. When JJ had a mustache he looked like Hitler.

Bottom LIne: SMU blew it! I am so happy they did not hire Fran. SMU will assure themselves of being TCU's whipping boy for years to come.

They know not what they celebrate.

I think he is a rather decent coach, but I doubt he would have any interest in UH, no ties that I'm aware of. And if we need a new coach I'd rather have one with Pacific coast ties.

well, if we wanted a coach who no one would like, had a poor relationship with hawaii when he was in the WAC, and would bolt after one season of winning, then i think we should get him.

You're correct on that one. He and Jones traded verbal jabs when Jones complained about the dirty chop blocks TCU linemen were using. IIRC, Franchione pretty much told Jones to shove it....

are u kidding me, no way i would go for that. what jj did in one year after x-coach fred did in his era(0-12) turned around the losing season to a winning season the next year. it would take fran's 2-4 years to get the players to play his type of offense, since all the players are in the run & shoot or spead offense. if he(fran) willing to take a pay cut from what he was making in a&m then go for it. but all in all, fran will realize that he will go through what jj is going through now. i remenber back then, uh played in the holiday bowl or since the wac had tie in to that bowl with byu, new mexico & the utah & the wac scools then, it was bad enough just trying to win the wac with byu in the way. now if uh ads, bors and state reps feel playing in for the aloha bowl and getting only 3/4 of a million dollars is good for them, then they herman and the ad should hire fran or someone less attractive coaches out there. the time of today present have change since the bcs took place especially now that the mid-majors are allow to one one the bowl game9bsu uh & utah). when u could be making more money now then the holiday bowl or the aloha bowl, and to get there, u need to build a program that will attract media/national exposure as well top players from other places. and that comes with building great facility & stadium and so on. maybe im over my head with this topic, and please forgive me if anyone feel that i dont know what im saying, it that through the years, it just getting tried of this nickle & dime ****, with the coaches,staffs as well the people of hawaii and the community have to go through to be able to go the next level. i can see jj point as well all the post i have read here concerning uh program, it just seem to be like jj is very much up to bring the program to its level, but he knows he needs help in doing so and that come from state reps, bors ads, he done what he could from what he has to work with. it seem like driving a corvette & trying to win at the finish line first with a 4 cylinder-piston engine in it.

No way is he going to coach at UH! How would he and McKnight get along? McKnight would have him in a choke hold on the very first day. Fran is a classless SOB who used to chop block our players while at TCU. He authorized such knee-injuring tactics vs. our Warriors in '99. He's also proned to corruption, and after all that JJ has built here, Fran would only tear the walls down.

Best replacement for JJ would be Cal Lee, who knows both R&S and defense very well and is a proven winner. He now has the D1 experience necessary to take his head coaching skills to the next level. Norm Chow would also be a fine candidate. I would promote from within first, amongst those assistants that remain behind. I doubt that McMacking would stay, as he said he wants to coach alongside JJ for the remainder of his career. I don't fault him for that at all. McKnight is also a friend of JJ, and I anticipate him leaving as well, unless it's too far from S.D. to keep a watch over his business. Miano would be next, then Reinbold, should they stay.
Also, think of Skip Holtz as a good one too!

It's time for Cal Lee to take the helm for the Warriors!

You are finally listening my friend!!!!!!! Another school is paying his salary while he brings in the RAW TALANT from Texas for Hawaii. He has a Texas pipeline. You would be insane not to at least look at him.

A$M would be funding your facilities while you wait for your BcS check. Fran did not do anything out of the ordinary. The A$M AD turned on him and was using anything he could to get rid of him. Fran turned around New Mexico and TCU. Fire your AD now.
