Say he does go back to Hawaii on the promise of improved facilities, a nice spiffy office full of carpet, and a raise to mcdonalds level pay for his assistants...

Once he signs the contract, what does he have to tie U of H to actually fulfilling those promises. He has heard these same promises now for 9 years. If I were their AD, I would promise him part ownership in the state of Hawaii. Once he signs, simply laugh at him and say just kidding.. By the way glad you will be in Hawaii for the remaining 5 years of your career.
