QUESTIONS ABOUT DAN MORRISON MAKING THE MOVE...

Postby TheBestAvailable » Thu Jan 10, 2008 1:15 pm

I'm listening to Hawaii sports radio and they say Dan Morrison might stay in Hawaii if McMackin becomes HC.

IMO we have to lock down as many assistants on Junes UH staff as possible.

I want the staff in place as soon as possible, but we can completely ruin the good HC hire by throwing together a bunch of scrub assistants.

Sadly, recruiting this year is already gonna be tough...we might just wash this one out and get ready for next year. (Or as JJ said, just find hte diamonds after the signing day)

There are very few real prospects that actually sign AFTER national signing day. The best we can hope for is that we assemble the best staff possible as quickly as possible and we hit the ground running.
Back off Warchild seriously.

ModelT...JJ mentioned that after signing day was his best time to get kids, so it can happen.

While I agree that there aren't any 4* and 5* recruits still looking to sign after signing day...there are plenty of 2* and a few 3*...which is exactly what we are going to sign anyways.

Yeah I suppose so. I don't buy Nostradamus' argument in the least that this coaching search has put us under "probation" for the next 4-5 years. Odds were that if we hired somebody like Fran or Coker in December, we would have generated little to no buzz and would have finished with a recruiting class ranked somewhere between 85-100. In other words, a class full of marginal (at best) prospects. So what are we losing really? That's right. Not much if anything. There's a better than zero chance that with June Jones at the helm, we will be able to snag one or two fairly significant prospects before this class is wrapped up. But if we don't, no big deal. We let him hit the ground running on an early start for next year's studs.

Also, do we do anything like what Texas, OU, and A&M do with a Junior Day in early February? Basically Texas will have the lion's share of their class commit there on the spot. We need to start identifying kids early in their high school careers, get them in here for camps, games, etc. and stay in constant contact with them. That's how the big boys do it.

The Hawaii coaches are sticking together to attempt to preserve the status quo. They are making a lot of self-serving statements to the media. But, in reality, they don't know who their next coach will be, or whether they will even have a job at Hawaii next year.

The acting AD indicated that he wants input from members of the University community to help with the decision. He said that he wants to take the necessary time to make the right decision. The searh committee has not been formed. They won't even review applications until January 15th. Other members of the University community (donors, etc.) have not been speaking to the media about their preferences.

The only people suggesting McMackin is a leading candidate are members of the existing coaching staff.

Jones is probably talking to these guys and will likely give them a deadline to decide.

These guys are not in the best position -- it's not over.
