Personally, I think this is a great move. I believe he has the speed to play LB, and if not we can always move him back later. We need some more size at LB.

Have to agree with Stallion - I dont see him at MLB - just not fast enough laterally to cover the whole field. he is a DE for us.

Also dont think our 225 (really 215) LB's will play nearly as much next year.

Just my opinion. I was wrong once, although it was over 20 yrs ago.

Is Bonilla too slow to play SS? Seems like that would be a good position for him if he had any speed at all

Personally, I think Smart has the wheels to play LB.
More importantly, I'd be interested to hear the opinions and explanations of our defensive coaches.

Look at the arms on that kid (and he's still a freshman?)
It's one thing to have blockers get past the defensive line and then run through 205-pound LBs. This guy will change the way teams attack the proverbial "second level" of our defense. No, he's not Chris Bordano yet, but he has a chance to be very good. Let's hope, huh?

We signed a guy years ago - I forget his name - who was thick and strong, but couldn't move laterally, and had a bunch of injuries, so he never played. Based on the way this guy rushed the passer in the two games I saw last year, I get the impression he can move well enough to play linebacker.
Sure hope he can, anyway.

He's an impressive talent. He looks like he could play either position just fine.
