I am not "confident" SMU will get picked to move up, but compared to 2 of 3 you mentioned, Dallas is a much larger TV market, DFW is a much easier in & out for travelling teams/fans, also Dallas is a much more exciting & interesting travel destination for opposing fans/kids/players to visit, plus Dallas&Texas are a much more fertile recruiting ground that travelling teams would like to be seen in. So if SMU can win a few more games I would think Dallas/SMU is much more attractive prospect with much better facilities than Tulsa, Oklahoma or Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Going on the fact that the Big XII currently has teams in Waco, College Station, Lubbock, and Manchester, KA, I don't know if the awesomeness of the city a team plays in really factors into their considerations much.
We've never lost the tailgate.

Those are from old associations, conferences, and back room deals, it's a new world. SMU with beautiful facilities and a couple of years under one June Jones will be a much more attractive candidate for a new conference than it was coming off the death penalty at Ownby Stadium when the SWC broke-up. Do you really think that Waco, Texas is as attractive in a whole variety of ways as is Dallas? If you were an opposing player/fan/parent/recruit where would you rather spend a weekend?...Dallas? or try to get to Waco, Texas?

Gerald Turner for Governor!

I don't think Turner is an alum.

Ford, while nice, might be a liability. It's tiny compared to most Big XII stadiums.

Seats can easily be added to SMU's Ford Stadium to make it on par seating wise with the stadiums at Baylor (opened 1950) and/or Iowa State. (opened 1975)
Any Big 12 offer would include that provision.
A competitive SMU is a much more desirable member than either one of those schools.

IPP, thought you might want to take a look at this to figure out what the potential penalties are for whatever you're on today.
Let's average more than 3 C-USA wins per year before we start talking about moving up. We couldn't even win ONE last year...

Maybe you need to be tested because obviously you are not reading my posts, you are reading things into them that are not there. Thats what great about these message boards the words are right there so you can't claim something else was said.

Again you are not reading my entire posts.
I stated in my very first post today that you are beeching about "I am NOT CONFIDENT SMU will get picked for a move up"
HELLO EARTH TO '03 MUSTANG?
In my 2nd post today in this thread I stated "that later under June Jones we could be a more attractive candidate than we were post death penalty sitting in a sheet-hole like Ownby. Do you deny that as a fact?
Then in my latest post I stated "a competitive SMU" is a much more desirable member than either one of those schools.
No where in any of my posts did I say SMU was moving up now, nor did I say it was even a strong possibility at any time in the future.
All I said is that in my opinion "a competitive SMU" (which most likey is where a June Jones team is headed) is a much more attractive member of the Big 12 than either Iowa State or Baylor.

"And thoroughly immersed in delusional hubris"
And lots of "doom & gloom"....but June Jones and his Hawaii Mafia like Coach Reinbold are going to shut those pie-holes in a relatively short time.

Ford is designed to be expanded to 45,000. The smallest stadium in the big 12 is Baylor, at 50000. 5000 seats is an over 10% expansion over the designed expanded capacity of Ford. Still on the small side.
We could always pitch using the Cotton Bowl's 100,000 seats for UT et. al., however.

I love how you think that "doom & gloom" posters don't want SMU to win. I don't see how anyone who truly wants SMU to win could NOT be gloom & doom. To hype yourself up, and not be completely devastated every time SMU fails by it's own stupidity seems like not TRULY having 'winning' as your #1 priority for SMU.
You are Copeland.
We are Orsini.

Come on couch'em can you show where I have said that? You know I don't think thats true. Thats funny. I just think you're so "beaten down" you guys cant really help yourselves.
I don't see how anyone who truly wants SMU to win could NOT be gloom & doom.
So Orsini, June Jones, Coach Reinbold, President Turner, and the Circle of Champions should be "doom & gloom"?
Hell if they had some of the attitudes on PonyFans this would be Jr Day Camp: "hello fellows this is Coach Jones, SMU has sucked, and ummm we haven't won many CUSA games, and geee our stadium is a bit on the small side, and uh.....well I suppose all you Jrs are pretty doom and gloom about our school here....but will ya come play for us at SMU?
You are Copeland We are Orsini.
LOL now that is funny! 100% the opposite. It is you that still lives in "Copeland Era". Orsini says "we will win". Orsini says we "will be Top 25 in Football". If I say those same things you/others...laugh and imply I'm crazy or on drugs! Is June Jones or Orsini crazy or on drugs? Orsini & June Jones are definitely SUNSHINERS. Usually successful people are.
Are the multimillionaires that formed the "Circle of Champions" that ponied up money to allow SMU to have the 15th highest paid coach in the country thinking "doom and gloom" and not expecting much?
If I remember you were "doom & gloom" or at least majorly worried and whining about the Orsini coaching search "wha wha wha taking too long".
Well Orsini hired one of the best coaches that just took his team to the Sugar Bowl and now SMU has one of the highest paid coaches in country. Is that DOOM & GLOOM?
Yeah Orsini stuck a sock in that doom & gloom. If you remember I defended/supported Orsini the whole way during the coaching search. I wasn't doom & gloom about the coaching search. But I do remember some of the same doom&gloomers saying: "Nobody wants to come here" "Why would any good coach wanna come here?" "Why would June Jones leave the beach and his great team to come here?". "We better start looking at some assist coaches" "Maybe we should look at a Div 1AA type coach" "Orsini is blowing it" "Think of the recruits we are losing" "It'll take years to overcome this recruiting disaster" "Coaches know SMU is a dead-end career killer"" Oh yeah?.....tell that to June Jones! Big Daddy & all the doom & gloomers were WRONG!

True couch 'em .... but if we play a UT or ND I bet they would demand instead of the Cotton Bowl it be at the new Jerry World stadium. In fact I think Jerry's world will play to our advantage in two ways. Number one a top tier program may be more inclined to have a game with SMU if they get to play at Jerry World and be seen in this hot bed of recruiting. Number two Jerry World is going to make it more and more difficult for blue collar folks to attend live football. A competitive SMU playing an exciting high scroring style of offense may see a few fans that enjoy watching live football and an SMU game will be much, much cheaper option for a guy to take his family out to a live football game.
