SMU Coaches Head To American Samoa For June Jones Football Academy

Five Mustang Coaches Make Trek

June 20, 2008

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU football coaches June Jones, Frank Gansz, Dennis McKnight, Jeff Reinebold and Wes Suan will head to Pago Pago, American Samoa, June 26-29, for the inaugural June Jones American Samoa Football Academy. The academy, which will be held at Veterans Memorial Stadium, is a free two-day clinic for all American Samoa high school junior varsity and varsity football players and their coaches.

Joining the SMU coaches will be five coaches from the University of Hawaii and Coach Reinebold's wife, Ellie, a health care professional, who will be going as a medical missionary sponsored by the June Jones Foundation. Current and former NFL players Jesse Sapolu, Maa Tanuvasa, Mel Purcell, Reagan Mauia, Paul Soliai and Leo Goeas are also scheduled to appear.

The event will follow the fourth-annual June Jones Foundation Celebrity Golf Classic, June 22-23, in Hawaii. Proceeds will benefit H.U.G.S and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii.

The academy will involve 550 athletes and five will win a $2,000 scholarship that can be used at any U.S. college.

Samoa is below the equator. The toilets flush in the opposite direction.

Does the water jump out of the bowl if your toilet is directly on the equator?

Damn, does every thread have to be hijacked?

This is a great opportunity. Good to see that Coach Jones will go to great lengths - even halfway around the world - to get players. I've never bought into the idea that we have to get our players (in any sport) from Dallas, or even from Texas. There are some other schools - Hawaii, of course, Nebraska, Washington - that go over every year looking for some big linemen. Doing the same only will accelerate our ascent through Conference USA and beyond.

Acutally, in AMERICAN Samoa they installed devices that make them swirl the correct American way.

Sure hope all 5 of who get that $2,000 scholarship will use it at S.M.U. instead of someplace else!

Tonga is on the equator and although there are not a lot of flushing toilets there the answer is no. The only thing that may jump out of the bowl is a gecko or two. :D
