ground control to major tom..........rice is our first opponent
Ground Control...this is Major Tom...this thread is talking about Rices recruiting for next year and an infomercial for the "Rice Tidbits". It has little to do with our first game of the year. I'll worry (maybe) about their 2009 recruits when they sign their L-O-I next February...if they sign.
Settle down, young man ... the Owls ARE our next opponent, after all, right?
PonyFans.com ... is really the premier place for Mustang talk on the Web.

Yes, yes...they are our next opponent, but I want to hear about our guys...not Rice's guys. Even if by some damn chance they are the second coming of UT...so what? What are we going to do? Wring our hands and go "woe is us" over and over? We have no control over what Rice does and the affect it has on us...that's our coaches' problem and I have confidence that they will deal with it.

Now for my reading pleasure, I want more reports on how our guys are coming along from PonyPride. Rice's greatness will be confirmed or denied when we play them...not by some Rice fan site homers.

this attitude is so ridiculous. One of the greatest things about the SWC was that everyone knew everything about all the other team's players. You knew SMU would have trouble with Gabe Rivera who could outrun RBs sideline to sideline. You knew SMU would have to stop UT or A&M before they got to the 50 or Russell Erkleban or Tony Franklin would bomb a FG from over 65 yards away. You feared the backfield of Street, Worster, Koy and Bertleson and wern't particularly surprised when they set an NCAA Record as alll 4 ran for 100 yards in a single game against SMU (Texas vs. SMU, Nov. 1,. 1969 (Jim Bertelsen 137, Steve Worster 137, James. Street 121, Ted Koy 111). You simply had no idea how to stop Michael Singletary who broke helmets while chipping in 20 tackles a game. That familiarity brought rivalry. and people to the games. That is what is missing from CUSA and while many older alumni can really relate to CUSA. I bet these days 98% of SMU fans couldn't name 3 players on the Rice team. The more we hear about other CUSA opponents the more cohesive the conference will become and the better the rivalries will be. That's one reason I will continue to post relevant info about CUSA teams.
