I think if you go back and check the old southwest conference records over a period of time that Rice is the only team that had a consistant winning record against SMU.
Over what period of time? Rice, along with the rest of the SWC, destroyed us every year from 1988-1994. Prior to that, from 1977-1986 we beat them every year. We lost a few to them along the way, but I think it's a major stretch to say they had a "consistent" winning record against us. After 1988, unfortunately, just about everyone did.
SMU played Rice for the first time in 1916 and lost to them 146 to 3 and did not beat them till about 1924 or so and down through the years Rice won more games than they lost to SMU

No SMU had a commanding lead in this series until the DP. You are correct about 146 to 3 though.

I believe the all-time series vs. Rice has us ahead 45-39-1. Last win against Rice was 2005 at Ford Stadium. Last win in Houston was 1986.

smu sports historical records. Some more trivia. Matty Bell a long time SMU coach and late AD came to SMU from aTm he was fired from aTm because he could not beat SMU in about 5 years he got 1 tie and 4 losses.

was that also the worst loss we have suffered? SMU played Rice for the first time in 1916 and lost to them 146 to 3 and did not beat them till about 1924 or so and down through the years Rice won more games than they lost to SMU
