Burning redshirts

Postby Nacho » Tue Aug 19, 2008 9:21 am

Why not start BL or Braden and have Logan as the #2? At least redshirt one of the freshmen. I don't know why you want to burn 2 redshirts.

BTW I wish JW the best whether he stays or goes. He obiously has fallen from grace here.

As a followup to this if we are going to play 15 true freshmen this year this is not a good sign. Will any other d-1 school in the country play this many true freshmen? Definitely a building year. I'm hoping for the best but expecting the worst.

On a positive note I do expect the D to be vastly imporoved and may keep us in some games that we would have definitely lost last year.

Why is this a big deal? We're young now but will have some more experienced guys in the next couple of years who will be some playmakers away from something great.

A redshirt isn't burned until he steps on the field in a game. By no means certain that Jones will not decide to redshirt one of the two.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

I bet the number of true freshmen who play is not that high.

JJ has said numerous times that 15 players will not redshirt.

JJ often plays 2 QBs in a game especially if the game is out of reach. I don't see BL taking every snap for the entire season. With Braden at #2 it is only logical that he will play also.

...I believe you can redshirt a player whether he's a FR, SO, JR or SR. For instance JJ could RS a player before his junior year. So you're not 'burning' or 'wasting' a redshirt by doing this.
Larry Brown? We have Larry Brown? Cool!

I keep thinking that he is just trying to make sure which of the 2 freshman is #1 (he said BS was very close and he wanted to continue to evaluate) and then redshirt the other. But I also think that he has intentions of trying to get more highly rated QBs, either HS or JC, in the future so he may not be real concerned with burning redshirts on the ones he has now.

very true. I know players who dont get redshirted their first 2 years have used it because of injury later on in college.

I'm with you on this. Maybe he rolls a bunch of freshmen out there and some JuCo guys or prospects look and see that they could start fast.

we will need all the players with game experience we can have in the next couple of years...UT does something similar where often those guys they keep plugging in as starters at D and O line have been in a rotation their 1st two years getting partial time but invaluable experience.
