From my post in another thread:

What the marketing "genuises" fail to understand -- yet again -- is that creating new schmaltzy "traditions" is not the way to get people in the stands for pre-game (or the game itself). People don't stay on the Boulevard and show up late because they don't like the Mustang Band playing Peruna. As others have said, it's about winning. And if these new pre-game festivities don't include the Mustang Band in a Diamond M playing Varsity, then I may not show up until half time.

My husband has mentioned on numerous occasions that when he was at Tech in the early and mid- 90s, very few students were in the stands (before or during the game). Now the student section is filled every game about an hour before kick off. It's not because they play different music or introduced different traditions. It's just that now their coach is Mike Leach, not Spike Dykes, and they are winning.

One of the days these genuis marketing people are going to realize that they should be marketing the Boulevard rather than what is inside Ford Stadium-and I am 100% serious about that. I see a "soft-sale" approach to families and young people n entire 30 second ad focusing only on the Boulevard and I bet it would be more effective than the "hard-sell" of attending SMU football to people who are the focus-those not attending.

I can't believe I am going to defend this thing but I am going to try. I just listened to it for the first time. I can actually envision a way that it can work, but I don't know that it will. The real problem with the video is (i) it isn't the full band; and (ii) the backup singer. If that is a crowd instead of a single female singer, it might work. With a fuller sound, it might work. I need to see the whole presentation to decide.

Look it wasn't written by the Richards Group and it wasn't focus grouped. That makes it two steps ahead of half the crap they tried in the past.

My understanding is this went over pretty well at the Highland Park 4th of July parade. It might work in a stadium setting.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Having been to a lot of SMU games in my life I would agree with Diamond M on this one. Band marches in....a little Pony Battle Cry...a little Varsity...a little Peruna...Peruna runs across the field ahead of the team...team runs on..game starts.

How bout this slogan ? "the richards group go-a-th away" That would upgrade the marketing plan immediately !

This song should be in the "Gay or Not Gay?" segment of the Bob and Dan show on the Ticket. Is Orsini the person to email in an effort to go back to the more "traditional" team entrance?

"Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?"

Sounds like a poor man's version of the MNF theme, but even then it's better than what we were formally listening to...

I listened to it again, I think I threw up a little in my mouth. I agree it sounds like a poor man's MNF theme without Hank Williams, Jr. or sequins. Starting a football game needs drums. Did the Roman army start a battle to boogie music? Did the Spartans phalanx shake, rattle and roll?

If you want something more modern and aerial, think "Highway to the Danger Zone". Its not the words that do it but the rhythem and beat although with BLM at QB we do seem to be a high wire act on offense. Even USC uses a bandized version of Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" in games. Or if you want swing music, even the old great "Sing, Sing, Sing" with its tom tom beginning would be better than this. But what do I know, I didn't major in music theory, nor can I play an instrument. I just know that power in music tends to come from percussion and the bass cleft.
