SMU Postgame Notes

October 18, 2008

SMU honored the jersey of the legendary Don Meredith at halftime. Meredith wore number 17 during his playing years at SMU (1957-59). Meredith was a two-time All-America selection (1958 & 1959) on the Hilltop. Meredith is the sixth SMU football standout and ninth SMU athlete or administrator overall to have his or her jersey retired. Previous honorees have been Raymond Berry (football), Cash Birdwell (trainer), Eric Dickerson (football), Forrest Gregg (football), Lamar Hunt (football), Karlin Kennedy (women's basketball), Jon Koncak (men's basketball), Jim Krebs (men's basketball) and Doak Walker (football).

"Hail Mary's " are always a pic waiting to happen. No surprise on that one.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

But we're Catholic now!

Aren't we supposed to make those catches now like Notre Dame and Boston College?

We are currently only 25% Catholic...it will take a 51% majority to get those Hail Mary's caught. 8)
