Mountain West causes Frogs to miss BCS bowl berth.

Postby Caballo » Fri Nov 07, 2008 11:27 am

We have all opined on the move by TCU to the Mountain West and the basis for it. They thought it would allow them to get into a BCS conference (never gonna happen) or into a BCS Bowl.

Based upon the Frogs domination (mostly) in the MWC, if they had stayed in C-USA it is likely that they would have run the table last year and this year. That two year record would have likely put them into a BCS Bowl this year.

Would the diminished conference ranking of C-USA in these recent years have worked against them and allowed the computer to snub them from the big bowl? Based upon Hawaii last year in the WAC, I think not.

Some of my Frog friends more than ever are questioning the move and the supposed benefits. I don't blame them. The TCU administration that made the decision to bolt from C-USA has literally cost them millions.

It's simple, the logic of the rush to MWC, distancing themselves from SMU (not a good reason)

If you look at this year, substituting C-USA opponents for MWC opponents, they probably could have run the table, however, they would not have had the chance to play BYU who was ranked in the top 10 when they beat them, so I think they would have had a hard time being as high as they were without that.

BYU or Utah would have ended running their table and Boise is in the mix as well. Course they could have been in a better bowl in C-USA since the MWC has cruddy bowl affiliations.

No it proves that TCU didn't deserve a BCS bid. PERIOD. I swear some of you would play a Southland Conference schedule just to go 6-6 and go to the Weedeater Bowl. If want to claim national supremacy you've got to prove it by earning it. This thought pattern is very disturbing.

This reminds me of the AFLAC (quack) trivia questions they asked last night. "This is the 2nd time that 2 MWC teams in the top 25 have met. When was the last time?" I guessed this years BYU/TCU game. They gave the answer as Colorado State and someone else many years ago. Did any one else catch that or did I misunderstand the question? Or had TCU dropped out of the top 25 at that time?

TCU's loss to OKlahoma dropped them out I believe and they were not ranked when they played BYU.

Sitting on 1 win, 6-6 and the Weedeater bowl sounds pretty good right now!
