TCU would be better served as a major indie. They could play some regional games of relevance.

EL Paso, being a part of far west Texas, is definitely not southern in culture like most of the state. Very different than Houston or Dallas. Regional rivalries with schools like New Mexico and even Colorado State make more sense than competition against Tulane or SMU.

And to the "math" [deleted]: I would rather drive with Ted than ride in a helicopter with palin....

You are kidding, right? A MAJOR Independent? Last time I checked , TCU was not drawing 80k per game. Scheduling as an independent is exactly why most of those Independents are looking for conference homes

If you want to complain about the bowl situation, then independent is the worst way to go. You basically can either make a long term arrangement with one bowl which wants you every year (Ft. Worth Bowl anyone?) or you can hope to fill in for conferences that don't fill their allotments, but then you're getting the bottom tier games.

Access to BCS - you must be joking - not happening

For all of those negatives you have the positive of being the best of the bad conferences - whoppee!!!
