Notre Dame gets their 1st First Down at end of 3rd Quarter!

Postby HB Pony Dad » Sat Nov 29, 2008 10:30 pm

Watching my "Fighting Methodist" toy with the "Frightened Irish Catholics" like a Maine Coon Cat with a Mouse I have to admit I almost have a smidgen of sympathy for the overbearing Fat Bass_Turd!

At this moment I think ND should probably let FB finish his 5th year and see if his recruits can really show Stallion's Recruit well for at least 2-3 years and Count to 3 or 4 theory!

If FB finishes well next year, perhaps there is even hope for JJ and SMU!

This is an interesting read:

The needed conversation with the next head coach

I love the recruiting and denial ability clauses 3 & 4!

3. In recruiting, you tell us what the largest recruiting budget is of any
team, and we will match it. I have lined up specific alumni who have the
resources and will pay for this on a yearly basis. I know you need players to win and we will do everything possible to help you get them. We have higher admission standards than almost all of our competitors. We recognize, however, that the program is in a time of existential threat and some compromises might need to be made. For three years, we are going to give you five "passes" - players who might not get into Notre Dame in prior years about whom you can make the call and bring them in. Some preconditions (we may add a few others) - must have basic core courses, no criminal activity, etc. Among these five players a year can be two junior college players in case you have gaping holes you need filled immediately. We we will evaluate juco suggestions as you bring them to us. Your skin is on the line with these kids. If they get out of control or make us look bad, we will look to you. In the past we have made compromises on athletes such as Tony Rice and Chris Zorich and we compromised on allowing fifth years. Those compromises worked and made us better and the players made us proud. We hope this compromise works. It is up to you to make it work. If the short-term plan works we may be able to scale back on the five passes because our overall recruiting image will have improved so much. If we still need it and the change has worked, we will keep it.

4. We will keep these five passes a year between us. We will never
acknowledge it publicly or deny it, but say we don't comment on our
students' backgrounds. There will be some deniability about it but people
in the know will figure out that we changed some things. We will take some
flack for our recruiting compromises. The sporting press will savage us, saying we have sold out, are just like everybody else and have caved in to your desire to win at all costs. The school is ready to take the heat because we know the program is on the ropes and we have confidence we can make these adjustments while staying true to our mission and making a real educational experience for these kids as we have when we adjusted philosophies in the past. So choose wisely.

We know that there will be some PR heat, and we are going to try to mitigate that by other ventures in other areas to proactively change the subject, put our detractors on the defensive and reaffirm that Notre Dame is different and the exemplar for college sports. We are considering promising three percent of our television revenue to some worthy charitable educational endeavor in inner cities or something like that and openly calling on the Big Ten, SEC and others to match us. They will [deleted] themselves and be unable to match us given the unwieldy combinations of schools and interests in the conferences. And every time I go on TV I will reiterate what a great thing it would be if they would join us. My guess is that if you succeed, the money we give up will be a drop
in the bucket compared to what we bring in and if we fail, the whole revenue stream was going to go down the drain anyway. I also think this will beat a march on our critics and put us at the front of a "national dialogue on the need for college sports to give back".

Maybe SMU should take note...

Oh never mind We'd get DP'd all over again!
