UTSA Football in 2011

Postby Pony in SA » Fri Dec 19, 2008 9:11 am

UT System Regents gave final approval to proposal from UTSA for Div. football program yesterday. Interesting that UTSA conducted 2 different studies over the last few years on football and both reported the positive financial impact of successful athletic program as big reason to proceed with project. Too bad our faculty still does not believe or understand that successful football, basketball, etc. translates to more money generated for the school, more interest in the school, etc. which in the big picture can help them.

Anyway, hope if we are going to schedule 1 or 2 easy non-conf. games that we look to schedule UTSA at some point. Rather play Texas schools than Ark. State, etc.

Also, FYI rumor is they may put out feelers to Coach Fran because the UTSA AD is such a big Aggie and likes to hire former aggies. Don't think it will happen, but his name was mentioned as on possible initial list of coaches search. Their timetable is to select a coach by Feb. or March timeframe.

Hope everyone has a safe and happy holidays.

Hope SMU never hires another ex Texas aggie to be its head coach.

Seen how well they do.

UTSA will most likely start out at the Div. 1 FCS (formerly Div. 1-AA) level in the Southland Conference where they're already a member in basketball & other sports.

Wish them well - another option, along with Tx St and SHSU in the event we need to add a team to C-USA in the coming years when they move to D-1A...considering there are no other Texas schools we'd want in there
