Summer Camps

Postby MidlandMustang » Mon Mar 09, 2009 1:40 pm

Does anyone know why the football camp this summer is only for seniors. My 8 year old was looking forward to participating in one of our camps for the little guys but obviously will be disappointed. Are we planning to hold camps for all ages in the future?

More than likely there will be other camps for kids and area coaches. But this might just be a special camp for some recruiting.

Thanks for responding BUS. I was beginning to think we W. Texas alums aren't worthy of a reply.

Check the SMU athletics web site every now and then for any announcements. Since I have girls, I've never looked for them.

But for the girls bb camps, Rhonda has done a good job getting the word out. Usually, camps are divided into 3 or 4 one week segments, and they keep them there all day. Depending on the age group, it's like a daycare. Hopefully, they will pick up some fundamentals and learn more about sportsmanship.

They may not have not have one this year because I hear they are going to do more HS camps at multiple sites around the state.

Thanks for the input guys. I received an e-mail from Terry Hemme with the athletic Dept. this morning and was able to ask him about the summer football camps. He informed me that JJ wants to focus on seniors/recruits this year. However, Terry did say that it is possible that the summer of 2010 there is a good possiblilty that they will bring back camps for the younger kids. Just letting everyone know that have younger kids that are interested in the football camps.

Gotta put that SMU gear on the kids at the youngest age possible...especially with recruiting starting earlier and earlier!

I heard they also considering dropping the Mini-Mustangs Cheerleading Squad. Those little girls have so much fun, it's a shame that this "SMU connection" will no longer exist. All the pictures, all the girls tellling friends about SMU. I hope Mr. Orsini decides to keep the mini Mustangs. Sure maybe some "Top 25" schools don't have a mini cheerleading squad, but we don't have to be exactly like everybody else.

Don't worry, I understand they are going to be the halftime entertainment at a bunch of the basketball games next year along with those guaranteed crowd pleasers, the 70 year old basketball playing grannies...............
