SMU has 7 yards rushing and 224 yards overall. Great opener against a ConfUSA team.

Let's see, get blown out by one of the favorites to challenge for the ACC crown and top 25 team Wake Forest, or get absolutely blasted by RICE where the game is out of reach in the third quarter?

Just remember, you're paying JJ $166,667 for this game.

Yeah, ok. And if Ann Richards hadn't been governor a few years back you might be the one stuck in C-USA. Both of our teams suck, ours obviously a little more. Just shut it, at least for tonight.

It was Politics that got us into the Big XII, but it wasn't Ann Richards...

Whomever it was didn't do you any favors.

In football yes we suck, have sucked, and will continue to suck....but in everything else our Big XII alliance has done wonders for us.

What, women's basketball? No one except Tennessee, UConn, and Texas Tech care about that sport.

As far as the other sports go, I haven't seen BU's name as a regular in the NCAA men's tournament, and very few really care about nonrev sports such as baseball and track.

Football is what matters, and it's what funds everything. When you suck, have sucked, and will continue to suck in football then you definitely don't belong in the Big XII.

Made Omaha in Baseball a few years ago, NCAA's in Basketball last year and should be in next year..National Champs in Women's Basketball and Tennis. Tons of track crap in there too....now whould I trade it for football, yes (all of it but men's basketball)....but we've done more for the Big XII than SMU has done for the C-USA.

OK, so one year out of 20 in the men's NCAA tourney, one year in Omaha in a nonrev sport, a would/should/could be in the men's tourney next year, and 0-8 in football.

Sounds like a wonderful Big 12 resume if you're a school that looks for bright spots in it's inability to compete.

The bottom line is that BU has never and will never be able to compete with Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, Missouri, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, etc. in the current environment. The Big XII is a football conference, and Baylor does not and has never deserved to be part of it.

Beyond that, poor Briles. What a horrible decision he made. It's noble of him to try and resurrect a sinking ship, but all he really did by taking the job is commit career suicide.

Poor Briles? The man makes $2M a year to be a coach here. I think he'll be alright even if he doesn't work out at BU.

When he gets fired at BU, he'll end up a career assistant. If he had held out for a better job to open like Texas Tech or Texas A&M he'd most likely be set for life as a head coach. At least in Houston he had a program that could compete with it's peers.

wahine,

cleaning out some bookmarks and came across this old thread. You sound like you have a personal axe to grind with Briles.

You bag on Briles for being a bad coach and over his head at Baylor, but Jones is the one that went 1-11 in ConfUSA. Briles managed only a 4-8 record, but only 6 points from beating two teams (missouri and UCONN) that showed themselves to be very strong teams.

Care to wager on whether Briles will still end up as a career assistant anywhere? I'm more worried about locking him up long-term after he takes Baylor to a bowl game this year. Don't worry, though, I'm sure that Jones will get SMU to double their win total from last year in the coming season. PROGRESS!

I wonder if Stallion still thinks that a) Briles is going to suck at Baylor and b) Guy Morriss was a better coach

YEP-he just found a great QB and WR to run the show so they'll flirt but never make a bowl-oh maybe at 6-6. Long term he's dead meat at Baylor. Guy Morris simply couldn't find a decent QB-he's the one that toughened the program up to Big 12 level

Only a baylor fan would do a dumpster dive on a 9 month old thread and pull it out to try to beat you with it. Needs a hobby.
