Hats off to Joe for his story on Carl Bussey (see link on PF.com homepage). Bussey is a great player, and a great guy who deserves to have a shot at a national championship with the Ponies (and there is no more talented team in the nation this year than SMU -- if we don't reach the College Cup, it will be an upset.) Joe was a little homer-ish in his other story about SMU pumping the teams ("two of OUR players ....." etc), but his stance is absolutely accurate. I'm tired of hearing tcu ads. I hate that school, that town, and the damn frogs. I need to see SMU stuff everywhere, and that may start with Pony Fans wearing SMU gear all over town, all the time. I know I'm in red and blue every time I go to a Mavs or Stars game, but I agree with Joe -- we need to see more from the university.

Yah mon, I am sick of hearing TCU ads too. It is true that most of what you are hearing are the ESPN radio spots, and ESPN owns the corporate sales rights at TCU so that is why they are so gung ho, mon.

I have personal knowledge, mon, that SMU is taking care of business in promoting its team.

Thanks mon for the reassuring words on SMU taking care of business. When will we get to see/hear the results of that effort.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

I agree with GrapevinePony. Get out and wear your SMU gear. I do when I go to athletic events and social events. All alums should do the same. Any advertising is good advertising. Show you have pride and care! Any way we can help the coaches and school, however subtle, helps.

Go Ponies!

SMU taking care of business in the promotions department?!? Yeah, right. Sure I saw the stupid little Billboard by the Day on central. But face it, the school hasn't done squat since Mustang Mania. I found the CNN Season Preview on the Ponyfans.com home page to be right on. Make the commitment to fielding a Division I team, and get the city behind them with a Division I marketing effort.

PerunaPunch is right. As of yesterday, we still didn't have the schedule up on the back of the scoreboard that faces Mockingbird Lane. We can't even get a schedule up? How are people going to know we even have games?

DreadHead, I'd love to hear what you know we're doing to promote the athletic department. Do you know someone in the athletic department who has shared some insight? I hope you're right, but the marketing push should have started EARLY this summer.

While I do not have any real connections in the athletic department, I have received a piece in the my mail that promoted the season. It had a nice photo of the stadium and info about tickets, etc. Sure, I would love to see them do more, but I think there is some effort being made.

As for the scoreboard, I have asked about that. I have been told that they are going to have something other than the schedule up there. They told me it should be up this week. Bring it, mon.
