I heard the Alamo Bowl is also speaking to Orsini about sending SMU to face the Pac-10 team

Alamo Bowl snares choice Pac-10 deal

The Valero Alamo Bowl announced today a four-year partnership with the Pacific-10 Conference.

The deal will send the Pac-10's first selection after the Bowl Championship Series, the second overall pick, to the Alamo Bowl following the 2010-2013 seasons.

In a news release, the bowl said the Pac-10 team would face an opponent from the Big 12, but it did not specify the number of the selection.

Officials have been talking to the Big 12 about a matchup with the conference's second selection after the BCS, or the third overall pick.

“We are excited to partner with the Pac-10 and welcome the conference back to San Antonio,” Gene Dawson, Valero Alamo Bowl chairman, said in release.

The Pac-10 sent teams to the Alamo Bowl in 1993 and 1994, its first two seasons.

“This partnership along with our upcoming announcement regarding the Big 12 will add to our growing track record of exciting games between ranked opponents that deliver top ESPN ratings and capacity crowds,” Dawson said.

The announcement means that the Alamo Bowl has parted company with the Big Ten, a conference that will send a team to the local game for the 15th year in a row this season.

The Alamo Bowl, scheduled for Jan. 2, will pit the Big 12's third selection after the BCS, against the Big Ten's fourth selection after the BCS.
