Richard James

Perhaps this should have gone on the recruiting forum.

Maybe there has been recent discussion about Richard James, Craig's son, but if so, I missed it. I remember a couple of years back reading about the pros and cons of offering him a scholarship and one comment was was that he was a smallish slow TE and that SMU could not afford a scholarship. I read on another board that he is starting at TT, an inside receiver who redshirted and then lettered. His published forty time still seems a little slow.

Did SMU make a play for him? Was the lack of baseball critical? Will someone update me, please.

What I heard is that Bennett did not go after Richard just as he didn't reach out to ex Stangs like Craig and Dickerson for some reason. It made CJ mad and to this day he still has an edge towards SMU about that. He should have been recruited just as a legacy of a former great RB at SMU and his son did have enough talent to play at SMU and would have brought CJ back into the fold.....Bennett liked to recruit 'projects' that he thought he could coach into players....weird recruiting practices...

His name is Adam James. He is a pretty average ho hum receiver. We've got about 3 possession receivers who make 8-9 yards and a cloud of dust just like him. He has 6 catches for 56 yards and 9.3 ypc. Last year he had 15 for 159. This offense really needs guys that can score from anywhere on the field. And Beennett did find Sanders and Robinson so I'm not losing much sleep over losing another possession receiver

If I remember correctly Adam made it clear that he wanted to play football and baseball in college.

And Stallion is right, Adam James plays a lot like Cole Beasley. Would it be nice to have him? Of course. But we don't need him so I don't feel like we really missed the boat.

Unless of course there is some value in having Craig James on board to support the program. If Adam really was more interested in going to a school where he could play baseball too, then even with an offer from SMU he probably would have gone elsewhere and the offer would have been good PR anyway. Had he accepted, he would have been as good as many of Bennett's other recruits.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

My bad about the name, Adam it is. Thanks for the information. The bio note in the TT website says he has a younger brother, Andy. Is he far enough along in school for there to be recruiting information on him?

Looks like Bert Hill has already talked to him. At least we are giving him the respect to at least talk to him given his father's impact on the team.

Exactly the point......show some respect to the former legends of the school...you can't assume certain things and you have to at least talk to him and if baseball was so important then why isnt he playing at TT? I understood he wanted to stay here in the Metroploex...and this recruit was before JJ anyway and could have fit in Bennetts scheme even if he was just special teams....Mississippi ,Tulsa and Boston College offered him......were we too good to offer him a chance? Bennett recruited far worse than Adam James....
