All things being relative, remember this is football(and we all, including I, want to win) but these are college students first, then football players(even though some of them dream otherwise). Criticizing a 19 or 20 year old kid with words like sucks, hate, terrible, unworthy, etc shows your lack of integrity. I am upset about the loss and want SMU to win as much as the next guy but keep things in perspective. Ironically most of you are probably not even former or current athletes at this level so it is easy to sit back and point out flaws. Yes, BLM made some bad throws and likely it cost SMU the victory but if it ruins your day you are a fanatic, not a fan. Or, you wagered a little too much and that's your fault. Get lost. These kids are good kids and they play their tails off. Success is at SMU now and even more is on the way.

Well put except for the part where you contradict yourself by saying BLM "likely cost us the victory". His excellent play allowed us to be up by as much as we were. No one player costs a real team a victory. If the defense gives up 50 points, then the offense has to score at least 51. If the offense is having trouble, then the defense has to step up. Find a way to win. The plays are just magnified when they come at the end. If the defense is patting themselves on the back for playing a great game then they are wrong because the TEAM lost. Whether it be special teams, offense or defense, find a way to win. These kids are so lucky to be in the limelight and experiencing the thrill of competition and yes, "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat". I once heard a great college coach compare the anticipation in the locker room before a game and the nervous stomachs to the marines storming from their landing craft onto Omaha beach. He said "the great advantage the players have is that they didn't have to die!" Only those on the gridiron will ever know!'

These "kids" are legal adults, getting paid over 6 figures for 5 years in education, books, and housing, to play Div I football, which exists for the purposes of publicity for the university to alumni and prospective students. These are not students who happen to play a little ball for fun on the weekends. That's intermurals. These are athletes brought here to play football and are paid in education.

These people, in the context of their athletic performance and activities related there to, are public figures. It is just as appropriate to say their play sucks as it is to criticize anyone anywhere.

College is supposed to be preparation for the real world...In most business situations when huge mistakes are made we usually don't hug and tell the guy who made the mistakes its going to be OK.

In my business it is much worse than what this board is giving BLM...

I do support him, but I am not going to coddle him...

Remember, you're special, you're unique, you can do absolutely anything you ever want to, and you will never, ever fail. Red ink is inappropriate because it could hurt your feelings, so everybody gets a smiley face. And no dodgeball because it's mean, violent, and discriminates against fat and slow kids. But those terms are inappropriate, so from here on they will be called media-imposed-stereotypical-unhealthy-weight challenged children, and speed-challenged children. And if you fail, it's okay you can do it again, better yet, we'll just get rid of grades all together. Now everybody get together for a nice, big, multi-cultural hug where we can all say that we love each other, will be super best friends forever, and everyone here will accomplish every dream they ever have.

i am not against the "real world" i am against one of our fans stating that he "hates" a player - not that he thinks his play is bad but he HATES a player - that is uncalled for -

We have had a lot of QBs who could never dream of being as good as Bo is now, let alone as good as he's going to end up being by the end of his career at SMU.

If this is true, your company must suck! Sure, when I fall short or make a mistake at work, my boss talks to me about it, but he does so respectfully, and in private. I also don't get everyone else in the office making my mistakes a mockery for everyone to talk about. If anyone in my office ever talked to me in front of other people like some people talk on this board (you suck, your horrible, etc), I would probably knock their teeth out.

Getting "paid" in an education is great, but how many of us would work at a job for $40k a year, only to take the amount of ridicule that is dished out here and everywhere else? Cut the kid some slack. I know when I made bad plays in high school football & basketball, that I was harder on myself than anyone else. I am sure BLM is the same.

I too probably felt worse then any teammate when I missed a tackle and allowed a score, however the fact remained that "I SUCKED"!

the fantasy of the student athlete took a beating around here when we cut 10 student athletes for athletic reasons.

Yeah they were student athletes who had scholarships to perform for their athletic talents and they didn't perform athletically ( several had talent but didnt give all their energies to the program and maybe weren't really D-1 material after all). They would be released if they got here on scholarship for acting/dancing talents or engineering expertise as well and didn't pan out. They would all also be released if they didn't perform academically either....SMU education is a real expensive proposition and unfortunatly is such a big budget item and can't be wasted like at big state U which can be hidden if need be....

If a performer in Meadows doesn't pan out they get their scholarship cut. Football is no different. Either you hack it, or you are gone.
