Proposal

Postby HorsePower » Fri Oct 16, 2009 11:16 pm

Re: the mascot talk ...

Nobody really knows what the powers-that-be have in mind for the mascot change. I am with those who do not want to see Peruna eliminated or reduced in his role, and I'm not sure what to make of the new Mustangs. I fully respect those who have passionate reactions to the situation, and those who sound as if they don't care one way or the other. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion.

However ... venting on this site won't change what happens, even though we know Steve-O reads PonyFans.com, or at the very least gets reports on what is said here. Talk to him or President Turner on the Boulevard. E-mail them. Call them.

But this "all horses, all the time" talk is ruining this, the best website there is. So my proposal is this: once the game against Navy kicks off, STOP. Contact the administration all you want, but stop cluttering up PonyFans.com with all of this. If you have strong opinions, by all means express them — and ask any necessary questions — to those who hold the answers. But once the ball is kicked off in the Navy game, I propose a moratorium on mascot chatter.

You know this is the most passionate I have seen SMU fans in a long time. There will be a post-mortem next week about whatever happened with or to the faux mascots. I am certain that lots of people have sent private messages to Turner, Orsini, the Mustang Club and let them know their thoughts on this travesty. Right now, I think these guys are trying to figure out how to tell June Jones that he might have stepped in horse dung on this one. Jones should never have gotten involved in this thing at all. He should stick to recruiting players, coaching up his team and helping each player to improve just a little. After a 1-11 season, even though we're 3-2 this year, he doesn't have a lot of chits in the bank so to speak. A loss to Navy, a loss to Houston and a loss to Tulsa (all possible) would set the wolves loose.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Didn't you know that's what they want?

Again why don't you start a thread anyone is interested in talking about. I'm personally interested in preserving an 80 year tradition. Most loyal SMU fans are.

THIS IS NOT A EITHER OR MASCOT! I love Peruna, I can still remember the first time I saw Peruna at a SMU game 40 years ago. I even have a picture of Peruna here on my desk. Peruna will always be our mascot, if that ever changed, I would be furious. Today, I am watching OU vs UT, and getting ready to go set up our Boulevard spot, that's enough for me to worry about today.

So if nobody is interested in this thread, how do you explain the fact that TWO of the first five answers are yours? Are you just responding for the sake of increasing your post count?

I'm interested in preserving the tradition, too, and I'll put my loyalty up against anyone's. But I agree with the original poster 100% — the repetition of the same comments and "jokes" are tiresome and ineffective.

More importantly, I'm hoping Thompson, Frazier, Hunt and Grenier can crash down into the "A" gaps of the Navy offensive line, allowing Kennemer, Fleps, Yenga & Co. the room to run to the ball and make plays.

I can't help but note what a sad commentary that is in and of itself.

Agreed!

And guess what...One of the main reasons the Pro Peruna folks aren't going to let it go and continue to post is we're not going to drop this. Too many times in the past we have had things shoved down our throat. I'm sure the powers that be (Orsini/Turner/Jones) may be saying. 'Oh, it'll blow over" Well this isn't going to blow over. I am sure many are e-mailing the above people early and often, but as long as we keep this front and center they can't/won't ignore it.

If these posts about Peruna bother so much, then don't open them.

And as PonyTE said: All of this traffic is good for the pf web site advertisers. Glad we can help!
