Navy vs. SMU game presentation

Postby Longtime » Sun Oct 18, 2009 9:49 pm

Liked all the pageantry surrounding this game, and the above-average sized crowd. Made it feel "special."

They didn't mic the band this time and, from the pressbox side, the band once again sounded faint and distant. I hate the idea of mic'ing the band, but I like being able to hear the band loudly and clearly. I think it's not just the small size of the band but the acoustics of Ford Stadium. I don't remember the band sounding so faint at the Cotton Bowl or Texas Stadium - but those venues have double-decks that the sound can bounce off of.

THANK GOD they stopped playing that "In My City" rap song between plays! There was still some music between plays, but it wasn't as obtrusive.

Halftime was a whole lotta nada. How sweet, our new mascots can curtsy. I predict they will join the Noid, Mighty Mustangs Thunder and other failed attempts to "enchance" tradition. If you testosterone junkies are looking for a full-size horse to inspire you, these saddled and broken horses ain't it.

Looks like they improved the video screen. Had one glitch when they ran the 60-second volleyball commercial right after the ref said it would be a 30-second timeout. Oops!

The jet flyover was AWESOME! Wish they had come back around and done it again.

The cannon was cool -- for one game. I associate cannons with UT games. I believe A&M and UNT have them, too. That particular cannon was too big or maybe placed too close to the stands - it was scary loud, not just inspiringly loud. It blew out the freakin' play clock!

Lastly, the concession stand lines were way too long. A model of inefficiency by both operators and patrons. Let's get some professional concession stand workers who can turn around an order, and empower them with real cash registers, not calculators. And let's all be courteous to our fellow fans by knowing what you want to order when it's your turn. It ain't rocket science, people.

Frankly, I thought they looked like they came straight out of the Mesquite Rodeo. They looked more like a kid's pony ride than my idea of a mustang. I'd have a different opinion if there was no saddle/rider and they were jumping, kicking and raising Cain. That's a mustang.

Exactly!!!
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Did notice at the beginning that they played a song during an entire play while we had the ball...

And if you know it's going to be cold, go over to Kroger, buy all of the hot chocolate, and bring it over to sell to folks. And maybe have some SMU blankets for sale. Kudos to the sideline advertising lady for pointing out you could buy long-sleeved SMU shirts in the stadium.

Agree with the calculator thing. While calculator's shouldn't be so difficult to operate, cash registers would be more efficient.

The sound during the halftime entertainment was not timed appropriately, resulting in an echo effect that diminished the experience. Most disappointing.
