Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.Does anyone know where the fly-over jets are based? I was just curious where they came from?

Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.
I'm guessing Grand Prairie, but it might have been Fort Worth.
Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.
These are the guys that sign up to fight for and protect us 24/7 and they know what they are doing. Damn right their timing was perfect...they are damn good at being where they are supposed to be at the correct moment whether it is a bombing mission or a flyover. My hat's off to every one of them. Makes me proud to be an American and blessed to have guys like them covering our backs. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.A few years ago the Naval Air Station based in Grand Prairie was moved to a base in/or perhaps just outside of Fort Worth. SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.I don't know where they came from, but I saw them in the landing pattern for Love Field on Friday night when I was out at Fair Park. I think they were probably on double duty Saturday, because there was a flyover sometime around kickoff for OU/Texas.
I'd kill for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.
I can't speak for Mr. Pony, but the surprise I had about the impressive timing was more about the fact that SMU managed to finish the national anthem at the exact right time. I expect perfect timing from the pilots, SMU's game presentation is a little less consistent.
Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.
It may not have been keyed by the sheer timing of the band finishing the national athem. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

The NAS in Grand Prairie closed several years ago. The flyover came out of the Ft. Worth JRB - formerly Carswell AFB. ETA: JRB - Joint Reserve Base
Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.
Easy, big guy. I wasn't implying I was surprised by their skill -just that it was cool how it all worked out. (I served 10 years - and flew. ![]()
Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool. The Texas/OU pilots were stationed at a base South of Fresno. I don't remember the name of it. A different group did the SMU fly over. Both groups landed at Love Field. The pilots that did the UT/OU flyover were requested to go to Green Bay on Sunday but chose to come to the Navy game instead.

Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.It was also pretty sweet that they were in full afterburn, it looked like.

Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.I never thought that you were surprised, I was just adding to your statement...not jumping on you. Sorry if it seemed that way. Last edited by PK on Wed Oct 21, 2009 11:35 am, edited 1 time in total.

Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.I suspect they had someone at the stadium keeping track of the program and talking them in for the perfect timing of their arrival. SMU's first president, Robert S. Re: F18 Flyover Was Really Cool.
You say your expectations are not limited, yet you claim that collapsing in what should have been a victory is acceptable due to past defeats. The past 20 years were a time of defeat, true. Even using that in your assessment of last night reveals your willingness to be content with what should have been a victory. We will not win every game immediately, but the past does not forgive losing what should have been a win in the present. 20 years of losing have made you lower your standards. I do not expect this team to win every game, but I do expect them to win the games that they demonstrate they are capable of winning. Far East Conference
