Dear All,
For those of you who attended the Houston game, I would like to say that, as this was my first real away game, I had the best time I could have imagined. The tailgate was a blast and it was a real pleasure to meet some of you. The conversation and camaraderie flowed as freely as the beer (and to the parents of the unofficial keg-pumpers - you're daughters were adorable!).
As for the game itself, it obviously was quite frustrating, but there was a great SMU turnout in the stands, and the atmosphere was outstanding. The people around me, including some UH fans were great company. Who knew that the UH stadium sold beer? Not sure I needed any more. I just hope that my occasional outbursts, usually directed at the referees, and bizarrely fueled by a swelling of Irish nationalist (see beer comment earlier), did not detract from anyone else's game experience. I am a passionate fan, but I awoke on Sunday morning (ok....so it was the afternoon) fearful that I mat have alienated some of my Mustang brethren. I sincerely hope not because I greatly enjoyed the company I was in.
I would like to also say that the JW Marriott were outstanding hosts. From the comfort of the rooms to Roger the minibus driver who dropped us to and picked us up from a nearby bar when the hotel bar had closed, the service was great. And they let me sleep-in on Sunday past checkout time!
Anyway, my first away game experience will certainly not be my last! (sorry)
