"I'm an optimistic person. I felt that we would have changed the culture and attitude last year, but we didn't. It took a little longer," Jones said. "I'm pleased with where we are but we're not there yet. We're a recruiting class and a half away from being as good as a Tulsa or TCU and those type of teams.
"But the kids are playing hard and we have some kids that make plays. That's what we have to do. Play 60 minutes and hope to have one more point than the other team at the end of the game."
What would a bowl game mean for this program?
"It would be huge," Jones said. "We said before the season that it was our goal and we just have to win six games, Everybody understands that we have to win three of the last five. We have three home games and hopefully we can steal one on the road to give us a little cushion."
