This is gamesmanship by Jones regarding Mitchell

Postby George S. Patton » Wed Oct 28, 2009 12:46 pm

If you're telling me that your starting quarterback, who has a dislocated joint in his body coupled with a torn labrum, still has a chance to start, that is absolute baloney!

There's no way I can see No. 9 even dressing for this game. I think this is a complete smokescreen by Jones to make the Tulsa coaches prepare for all 3 QBs in this game. Actually, I'm fine with that. Why give Tulsa anything to know, except what everybody in the SMU locker room knows. Coaches love that drama, don't they.

Look, OU did the same thing with Sam Bradford with his throwing shoulder after the BYU game and didn't announce that he wasn't going to start against whoever it was until the Thursday before.

We're talking about a joint where things are connected and when those joints get banged up, they don't heal up in a week -- minor or major. Let's get serious here. And yes, I've been around enough of this stuff to make that argument.

If Mitchell plays, I'll be the first one to admit I was wrong. But if he plays, Jones would be a damn fool for sending him out there. One bad hit and poof, he's gone for the year -- just like Bradford.

When I'm in Minneapolis and tracking the game, I absolutely expect to read about Padron throwing the majority of the passes.

Just my opinion.

This could be played in a # of ways. SMU does not know who to start? SMU starts BLM for a few plays and the gives it to Pardron. Just keep them guessing. Pardron looked good to me.

Hawaii had never won at Nevada before the 2007 season (I attended many of those losses, sadly). The game before Nevada, Colt Brennan suffered a concussion on a brutal (but legal) hit by a Fresno State LB (coached by Tom Mason). JJ played games all week with the media about who would start.

First drive that Hawaii had, JJ used Tyler Graunke at QB to pass (like how Padron is being used now), Inoke Funaki as a running QB (like how Braden is being used now), and Colt Brennan even threw two passes...but both plays Colt was in, Hawaii used quick pass plays and nobody came anywhere near Colt.

Graunke played the rest of the game (as was the plan), but Nevada's coaches and players were thrown off because of that first drive and Hawaii ended up winning in a stadium they had never won in before with their backup QB.

I'd be surprised if Bo played the whole game, but I wouldn't be surprised for JJ to use a similar type of gamesmanship and use all 3 QBs on the first drive at Tulsa.

He was dressed and in a helmet in the second half, I believe. Even with an injured joint...

Did he play?

Why do you think he didn't play?

Then why did you mention something about last week when the focus of this thread is talking about what I expect to happen this week and the fact that he was dressed? Who cares?

Does the fact that he was wearing helmet and being dressed out in the second half have any bearing on what I expect to happen Oct. 31 at Tulsa?

If you have a comment about what you think will happen on Saturday, then share. Otherwise, your point isn't going anywhere.

Again, when you are talking about a shoulder injury where it is being called a dislocation and the coach is saying that we think he can play, are you buying this?

"We got away with pretty light damage so we want to keep it that way,” Mitchell said.

So he goes out there, gets blindsided and lands on the left shoulder (because sometimes, that happens in a football game), would he be really keeping it that way?

If he gets cleared, don't be surprised if someone pressured that doctor into clearing him.

I think this would be a really stupid move if he plays in this game. But then again, I'm not paid $2 million per year to coach this team. So it's not problem. The head coach has to live with this decision.

Its not his passing arm, so in one respect it impacts two things. Holding onto the ball and catching snaps in shotgun. The second one is the most problematic because sometimes snaps go high. So, I would be surprised if he played a lot, if at all. Unlike the NFL, college football doesn't have rules requiring you to detail every player's injuries (keeps the bookies guessing). He might take a small number of snaps to confuse things, but I suspect that you'll see Padron most of the day with Smith coming in once in awhile to keep things confusing.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

Interesting analysis EastStang.

Just had to remind you about this.

Well, may fortune favor the foolish. Just glad Padron stepped up and handled the start very well. Looking forward to seeing him start against Rice.
