SMU Postgame Notes – November 14, 2009

NEXT GAME: SMU is at Marshall on Saturday, Nov. 21. Kickoff is 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT.

TEAM

SMU is 5-1 in Conference USA; which is tied for the league lead and leads the west division. This is the best league record for SMU since a 7-1 league mark in 1983. It is also the most league wins for the Mustangs since joining C-USA (won four C-USA games in 2005 and 2006).

SMU is 6-4 on the season and bowl eligible for the fifth time (1985, 1986, 1997, 2006, 2009) since the last bowl appearance. The last bowl was the 1984 Aloha Bowl (Dec. 28, 1984, 27-24 win vs. Notre Dame).

Margus Hunt blocked UTEP’s 39-yard FG attempt on the final play of the first half. It is SMU’s ninth blocked kick of the season (5 FGs, 4 PATs); Margus Hunt (4 FGs, 3 PATs); Sterling Moore (FG); Taylor Thompson (PAT).

INDIVIDUAL

Margus Hunt
- Had a blocked FG on the last play of the first half; now has seven blocked kicks on the season (3 PATs, 4 FGs); that extends his SMU season record for blocked kicks (previous mark was four by Chad Patton, 1992 (1 FG, 2 PATs, 1 punt))
- The seven blocked kicks this season are tied for second-highest total in NCAA history (record is 8 by three different players)
- His 4 blocked FGs are tied for second in a season in NCAA history (6 by Lonnell Dewalt, Kentucky 2004)
- NCAA career rankings; seven blocked kicks ties for 13th (record is 19), four blocked FGs ties for ninth (record is 8); three blocked

Chase Kennemer
- Had 11 tackles, and now has 104 for the season
- This is his seventh game with 10 or more tackles this season

Bryan McCann
- Had an interception and now has 11 for his career; which is tied for eighth at SMU
- Had 83 kickoff return yards and now has 720 KOR yards on the season, moving into sixth in a season at SMU
- Now has 856 career KOR yards, moving into seventh at SMU

Shawnbrey McNeal
- Had a career-long 58 yard run on his TD at 13:58 of the second quarter
- Had a career-high 169 rushing yards (18 attempts; 9.4 average) and now has 896 yards for the season
- This is his third 100-yard rushing game of the season

Sterling Moore - Had his first sack of the season

Kyle Padron
- Had two TDs passing, now has six for the season
- Had his first two rushing TDs
- Four TDs responsible for (2 passing, 2 rushing) ties for ninth in a game at SMU

Aldrick Robinson - Had 41 receiving yards and now has 1784 for his career; which is ninth at SMU

Emmanuel Sanders
- Had 2 receiving TDs to extend his SMU career record to 32, which is also best in the NCAA among active players
- This is his 14th 100-yard receiving game (fourth this season), which extends his SMU career record; it is the second-highest number in C-USA history (three players have had 15)
- Had 134 receiving yards to extend his SMU record for career receiving yards to 3429 (second is Emanuel Tolbert, 2784 from 1976-79). He is fourth in Conference USA history.
- Had 7 receptions extend his SMU record for receptions to 264 (previous mark was Jason Wolf, 235 from 1989-92). He is fourth in Conference USA history.
- Had 134 receiving yards and now has 977 receiving yards for the season, which is fifth in a season at SMU
- Had 7 receptions and now has 77 on the season, which is third at SMU (record is 83 by Mick Rossley in 1994; second is 80 by Jerry LeVias in 1968)
- With his 2 TDs, he now has 196 career points, which is seventh at SMU
- Had 134 all-purpose yards (all receiving) and now has 4170 for his career; moving into sixth at SMU. He is just the eighth Mustang to 4000 all-purpose yards.
- His seventh multi-TD game; first since 10/18/08 against Houston

Taylor Thompson - Had two sack (1:40 and 0:26 left in the fourth quarter), now has four on the season

The Aloha Bowl score was 27-20. SMU had a winning record in 1985 and 1986 but was not, in fact, bowl eligible.
