Western Division Champion Determined This Week

Postby San Antonio Mustang » Mon Nov 16, 2009 2:22 pm

Looks like the Western Division Champion will be determined this week by whether we beat Marshall. We are 5-1 in the Conference and Houston is 5-2. Houston plays a 2-8 Memphis followed by a 1-5 Rice. They should easily win both giving them 7-2 conference record including a win over SMU. We play a 5-5 Marshall followed by a 3-7 Tulane. We should easily beat Tulane (although they have had our number in recent years.) If Marshall wins we are tied with Houston and Houston will have the advantage due to their victory over us.

Yeah and a win in 1997 over 0-10 TCU and we would have played in a bowl...

Tulane will beat us if we let them - beat Marshall, beat Tulane, and then celebrate.

Not before.

With this headline I assumed you were predicting an SMU win over Marshall and a Houston loss to Memphis. That is the dream scenario to me.

I assume he meant that we would at least tie for the division and apparently would tie for the division if we lose.

I mean we win and we will probably be the Division champion. Houston does not have to loose if we win. If we loose we probably tie for Division Champion and Houston represents the Division. And the caveat is we have to also beat Tulane.

A win for us and a loss by Houston would be even sweeter.

Every team we play can claim that.

If I recall right, even a win over TCU in '97 would not have guaranteed us a bowl. I want to say Notre Dame was screwing it up for everybody, or something. In any event, I like to blame things on Notre Dame whenever I can
Damn right, Marshall is tough at home, and Tulane likes to toy with us. These will both be hard games

in case you haven't noticed the point spread in our wins...we don't beat anyone "easily"

let's take it one game at a time. Marshall will be a tough game to win
