This is where the Mustangs wanted to be: entering the last game of the season with a chance to secure a bowl invitation. There are many who think a bowl bid is a given, now that SMU has the requisite six victories and the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl reportedly has strong interest in bringing Mustang head coach June Jones back to Hawaii.
But a victory Saturday over the Green Wave would ensure a bowl bid for the Ponies, their first in two and a half decades.
Tulane enters Gerald J. Ford Stadium with a record of 3-8 overall and 1-6 against Conference USA opponents, and has come out on the short end of some lopsided scores this season. But according to SMU players and coaches, the Green Wave has some dangerous players, and obviously would like nothing better than to ruin the Ponies' home finale.
