No worries, but all I did was combine posts from others on the board. They deserve the credit.

Just glad all of us at work were able to watch history being made!

I truly was proud to be a Mustang today. It was incredible seeing that many people show up and really cheer on the 'Stangs.

Top story in Hawaii paper with one small but glaring error

SMU accepts Hawaii Bowl berth

By Staff and news reports

SMU officially announced today it has accepted a invitation to play in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl.

The Mustangs, led by former Hawaii head coach June Jones, will face a Western Athletic Conference opponent in the Christmas Eve game at Aloha Stadium.

The game will mark SMU's first bowl appearance in 25 years, when the Mustangs faced Notre Dame in the Aloha Bowl. SMU went 7-5 this season after going 1-11 in Jones' first year in Dallas.

It will be the fifth time Jones has coached in the Hawaii Bowl. He led UH to the game in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006.

"We set this bowl as a goal before the season started and I am so happy that our players will be able to have this experience," Jones said in a release. "Reaching our first bowl game in 25 years is special -- not only for our current student-athletes, but also for the guys who came before them and our student body, staff and fans. This bowl has special meaning for me personally, as eight years ago, I was part of the original vision ESPN and Sheraton had for Hawaii and the nation. It is exciting to be a part of one of the best bowl experiences in college football."

Jones would face his former team in the bowl game if the Warriors (6-6) can beat Wisconsin in its regular-season finale on Saturday.

The Mustangs announced the bowl berth at a campus event that included cheerleaders, the band and purple and white orchid leis for Jones, athletic director Steve Orsini and school president Gerald Turner.

Less than three year after the Mustangs' Aloha Bowl appearance, recruiting violations led to SMU's ban from competition under the NCAA's so-called death penalty.

Orsini says the bowl bid "has proven there is life after death."
