So much to learn about Hawaii

Postby PonyPride » Wed Dec 02, 2009 2:12 am

The state fish is called the "humuhumunukunukuapua'a" ... apparently that's a kind of trigger fish.

I got some players to try to say it (after ThadFilms brought this to my attention). I don't know if they said it right, but I'm positive I didn't.

Yup, I had players and guests alike tring to say "humuhumunukunukuapua'a" both on camera and off. The Mustang Band's own great one Tommy Tucker was the only one to nail it (not on camera, sadly), said he learned it in a song they had to learn in grade school.... "My Littler Grass Shack on Ka......" I'm not even going to begin to try and spell the name of the town/island that the little grass shack was on or in. Wonder if that old tune had any influence on Shanty Town. I'd say it's highly likely. Oh and one final note, I didn't ask June to say humuhumunukunukuapua'a but I am sure he would have nailed it.
