Fiesta Bowl employees say bowl repaid political donations

Postby dcpony » Fri Dec 18, 2009 12:12 pm

Not surprised by these allegations at all. The Fiesta Bowl is worried about the Cotton Bowl taking it's place. More stories like this and a playoff is bound to happen sooner than later. Anti-BCS members of Congress and Senators will refer to this story and hopefully others, during BCS hearings as proof that a playoff is needed.

Fiesta Bowl employees say bowl repaid political contributions
CEO John Junker denies repayments, which would violate election laws
by Craig Harris - Dec. 18, 2009 12:00 AM

Over the past decade as the Fiesta Bowl worked to maintain its elite position as one of the top postseason college-football games, employees made contributions to politicians friendly to the bowl, including some donations that may violate campaign-finance laws.

Past and present Fiesta Bowl employees have told The Arizona Republic they were encouraged to write checks to specific candidates and were reimbursed by the bowl.

Such reimbursement would violate state and federal laws that prohibit funneling corporate campaign contributions through individuals. Participants could be charged with misdemeanors and felonies.

now that the Cotton Bowl is played at the death star in Arlington, they're in much better position to move into the BCS lineup.
Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally

My grandfather was on the Cotton Bowl committee for years and I would love to see it elevated

It bothers me they're still calling it the Cotton Bowl.

I agree. Isn't the Cotton Bowl the actually stadium itself? Or is it called something like Fair Park Stadium now?

Regardless, I think it would be good financially for the area to have a BCS Bowl here.

I believe the stadium is still called Cotton Bowl Stadium. The game is called the Cotton Bowl Classic and will, of course, be played at Cowboy Stadium (yuk) and that stadium will never be called the Cotton Bowl Stadium...never.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
