A little disappointing in Hawaii...was why the Mustang Nation wasn't allowed to be on the field after the big win in Hawaii...most of the players families weren't allowed on the turf and JJ's wife ( didn't know he was married????) finally was let on the field, but we didn't really understand why we couldn't celebrate with all the team....we deserved it! The Bowl seemed to be well run overall and took care of everyone, but the on the field celebration would have been great icing on the cake........oh well!
Re: A little disappointing in Hawaii...I don't think that the Aloha Stadium security has let fans on the field ever since the 2007 win over Boise State that clinched Hawaii's first outright WAC championship ever. The problem was that the fans went a little crazy on the field and stole a lot of things...such as the helmets of the players. That was especially bad because player helmet are custom fit for their heads and they needed the helmets for the game against Washington the following week!
People were running right up to players and trying to take their equipment out of their hands, and anything that was left unattended was taken too. There was a massive media campaign to beg the thieves to give the equipment back so that the players could play the season finale against Washington, the game needed to get Hawaii to a BCS game. After that, Aloha Stadium security seems to have prevented all fans from getting onto the field. I'm sorry that SMU fans weren't able to get onto the field after the game. A handful of bad apples after the 2007 Boise State game seem to have ruined things for both Hawaii and SMU fans.
Re: A little disappointing in Hawaii...That is unfortunate. What is bad though, during halftime it started to rain,an older female smu fan opened her umbrella to use. Stadium security not only told her she could not use the umbrella, but they took it from her! Incredible. Yea, so they asked her to take it down, but to take it away from her, that is a little over the top.
GO MUSTANGS!
Re: A little disappointing in Hawaii...
that happened at the Houston/TT game this year! I saw Where sumlin was asking to please give the helmets back and nobody will get in trouble
Re: A little disappointing in Hawaii...I took a wash rag from life time once used it to wax my car then washed and returned it.
Re: A little disappointing in Hawaii...
That is very unfortunate. I believe that the umbrella thing at Aloha Stadium started right after 9/11. They banned umbrellas as part of their security measures and haven't changed their mind since then. Some season ticket holders like my parents learned to bring trash bags that they can use as makeshift raincoats. For some reason, Aloha Stadium security has treated umbrellas like some threat to security ever since 9/11. That is probably why they took the umbrella away...they don't check for knives or guns or other things, but they sure care about those umbrellas.
Re: A little disappointing in Hawaii...
The really crazy thing to me is that my game tape shows Colt Brennan being interviewed by ESPN right after the game...and while he's talking to the ESPN reporter on camera, some "fan" runs to him and tries to take away his helmet! Colt actually played tug-of-war with his helmet while being interviewed on ESPN.
Re: A little disappointing in Hawaii...E Bay and Craigslist made athletes gear hot commodity!
Re: A little disappointing in Hawaii...Wow thanks for the reply as I had no idea and I guess there is good reason for the security on the field, but they were a little too secure as at least the parents of the players hould have been able to go on the field. Some idiots make it so hard for the rest of us.......
