A nice goal to have no doubt, but the reality is that that possibility is quite a ways down the line for us. It took JJ 9 years to make Hawaii a BCS buster and it took TCU 12 years of winning seasons to get to the point of being a BCS buster. My hope is that the BCS goes away and we can compete for meaningful bowl bids on an even playing field in the near future.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

For a number of reasons, this team could be slighly better next year, and finish 7-5. The following year, this could COULD be, a pretty dang good ball club.

I think that's probably a realistic, positive expectation. In fact, the team could be improved and not be able to match this year's record.

Truth be told, this year was almost like a curse had been lifted. The asinine calls by refs were minimized. The ball seemed to bounce our way, etc. And with the exception of Houston, the quality of the conference took a dip this year, and we were able to take advantage of it.

If the Hawaii Bowl was an indication of how far the team was able to progress with the extra practice, next year should be really exciting. But labeling us as a BCS buster seams a bit premature.

When will next year's schedule be posted? I'm ready to start predicting Ws & Ls.

That's not necessarily true, Boise State busted the BCS in 2006 and 2009 with a FCS team on their schedule, Utah busted the BCS in 2008 with a FCS team on their schedule, TCU busted the BCS in 2009 with a FCS team on their schedule. JJ's own Hawaii team busted the BCS in 2007 with 2 FCS teams on the schedule. We don't need to have 2 Big 12 teams on the schedule to bust the BCS, these days all it would take is TCU, a FCS team and 2 lower-tier FBS teams.

Very good point.

We probably don't have the athletes to be BCS busters yet. But we are working on it. With the Hawaii Bowl win it should really help the 2011 class be able to recruit some top tier talent.
