OT: San Diego Gaslamp Restaurant Suggestions?

Postby StallionsModelT » Mon Feb 22, 2010 1:44 pm

Flying out for a week's vacation tomorrow. I've been to San Diego three or four times but I don't think I've ever actually eaten down in the Gaslamp which is where I'll be staying. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Back off Warchild seriously.

My favorite gas lamp restaurant (Max's, great lobster ravioli) has closed since I moved from San Diego and nothing else in the gas lamp really sticks out to me.

I can suggest this place which is a $5 cab ride from downtown. It has good food and unique ambiance:

For nice seafood, I like George's. I usually go to George's 'Top of the Cove' in La Jolla, but they have a George's on 5th Avenue which I'm sure is good. Also check out 'Top of the Market' which sits on top of The Fish Market. For more low brow seafood, stop by Anthony's 'Star of the Sea' on North Harbour - it has a window that waves crash against. I've had a good meal at Monsoon - an Indian restaurant, and there's a cool Asian-Southwestern restaurant called Kemo Sabe near Little Italy/the airport that's pretty good. But I'd be a bad native San Diegan if I didn't recommend Rubio's for fish taco (also try their bean & cheese burrito) or El Indio's for their taquitos and California Burrito (burrito with fries). Delish!

There is a Mexican restaurant in La Jolla called Jose's which is excellent. Sure beats the crap out of TexMex...

Wahoos Fish Taco is a chain, but it is really good (I prefer it over Rubios, which is good also)

Just about every place I've tried in Little Italy has been good. Can't really go wrong in that area.
