i just don't want to spend 40 years wandering in the desert...we should have gotten this thing rolling a decade ago, when I was graduating.

Random question, but does anyone think that having June Jones here may provide some cache, enough to get us into a conference? Would that, along with our storied history and recent success, be enough to outweigh all of the negatives (small fan/alumni base, 20 years of suckage on the field, etc)? Just throwwing it out there.

Short answer, probably not. It's like if you were applying to Harvard with a crappy GPA and low SAT score and had a rec letter from a rich alum. They'd smile and nod while reading the letter, and then send you a thin envelope in the mail.

From what I heard from a very reliable source is that SMU will follow Texas where ever they go. This person also told me about nebraska and missouri joining the big ten two weeks ago so I trust him.

Actually Harvard would probably put the guy at the bottom of the waiting list and then the week before school started, send the rejection letter, so that the rich alum at least thought they paid attention to his letter and "tried" to see if there was room for the kid. Of course part of it would depend upon whether the alum was rich and generous to Harvard, or just rich. My view is that our future is not in our hands at this point, all we can do is make ourselves more competitive each year. Beating TCU and Navy this year with a CUSA west championship would go a long way toward making the appropriate statement to those looking at us. Especially, if they are weighing us vs. TCU for a final slot. Beating Tech would just be plain fun. If decisions are made in 2011, that would be important, but if they're made in 2010, we just have to watch, pray and hope that we are attractive to possible conferences.

UT won't even play us in football, why would they want us to be partners with them?
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna

PREMISES: Texas wants SMU to be the USC of the Southwest and run off to the PAC 10 with them

OK straining any semblance of credibility-this works in a derranged mind because UT insists on not going to the SEC, the PAC 10 is Texas only option and PAC 10 accepts UT and probably A&M as national research institutions but rejects UT's other proposed travel partners Tech, UH, OSU, OU, Baylor, TCU as poor academic partners or culture. OK I'm on-board. Get packed and wear something warm.

Well I'm just trying to articulate exactly what these "secret handshakes" are about. Seriously, the wording is so vague that later it can be used to justify just about anything. Nobody paints a picture or seems to make a plausible argument. If you want to be declared to be Nostradamus or at least Karnack the Magnificent-lets hear what the alledged "secret handshake" is about.

I think Orsini has nude photos of Dan Beebe locked in a vault somewhere.
