They were supposed to play us in Texas Stadium in '79 or '80, but backed out when it looked like Eric Dickerson would embarrass their defense. This was the season after we tied Ohio State at Columbus. I forgot how much they had to pay us to get out of the contract but we ended up playing poor Wichita State on the road as a make up game.

Wouldn't have been 79.. [deleted] was just a freshman wouldnt have known who he was...That damn 2003 Sun Bowl game made up for that though...28-0 at the half I believe....Bama kicked our butts...28-7 final
Ohio State came to SMU in 1977 and won 35-7 and SMU went to Columbus in 1978 in front of 90,000 fans-- Mike Ford and E Tolbert tied them and should have won...
we opened alot of eyes...we are almost there again....finally!

No, it was '79. Our first full year at Texas Stadium. Yes, Dickerson was a freshman, but it was the year after we whipped Florida on the road, scared Penn State to death at Happy Valley, and as you said, should have pulled out a win at Columbus, but ended up with a tie.

Many of the OSU fans thought our last second 50? some odd yard field goal went through the uprights.
