There's a lot more to fitting in than just the academics at SMU and certainly as someone else noted it is not easy for everyone to make that adjustment. That is not to say that some guys do not come here with a sense of entitlement. That back in high school, in spite of "no pass, no play" someone arranged for them to pass because they needed them on the field.

A family friend who's kid was a Bennett recruit descibes a recruiting visit where Bennett told him that football was a 20-25 hour a week job and in between he would be going to class for another 15 hours and in study hall for 8. The same family said on their official visit someone from the learning center told the recruits that SMU had no "jock majors" but if they were honest with their advisors, asked for help, went to class, and attended study hall at the end of 5 years they would have an academic degree they would be proud of from SMU.

Jones gives these guys 3 strikes. They know the rules and expectations. If they wash out; it is not from lack of information.

Anyone ever have a version of that common dream where its late April of your last semester before graduation and you just realized

a) you forgot to drop that class that you stopped going to after January; or

b) its been so long since you attended the class you can't remember where the textbook is; or

c) you just haven't opened up the textbook all semester or haven't been to class and the final is in 2 weeks

Damn I had the Law School version of that dream last nite and I blame all of these academic casualties and the JUCO who is trying to get eligible. These guys need to get their act together so I can get a good nite's sleep. Had to remind myself I graduated 25 years ago

If the rumor mill is true, let's hope Richard Crawford and Chris Parks are ready to play.

alright, what's wrong with the world today? I have that exact...same...dream...reasonably frequently. It's usually version a) described above. It's easily the second most frequent dream I have, right behind the Richie Valens-esque plane crash dreams I have.

In my recurring version, I show up for the final and don't remember being in the class all year. But, yeah, I have the dream, too.

There are two or three undergrad classes where I cannot even remember what the professor looked like and those trigger that same dream. I know I went to class, but can't remember the profs. They must have been 8 a.m. classes or 3 p.m.

As far as letting students pass just to play football, listen to what you just said! That is absurd, it is college, not high school. These students that are failing are stupid, they are lazy and don't care. Kyle Padron is not on the list, he is fine and is working hard. As far as the other students go, they are simply not trying, SMU has given them every chance to bring their grades up. They have study hall, the LEC, and constant meetings with professors. If they do not take advantage of these things then that is on them. As a former student at this fine institution, I am pissed that anyone would cheapen the hard work of all of the graduates by simply passing someone through a class. That being said, there are classes that anyone can pass. These kids still seemed to fail those. Professors are not going to put up with disrespect and constant absences. Most classes you can at least get a D+ or C- in by just showing up and maybe listening. I don't expect these kids to be rocket scientists, but at the same time, they are student athletes and need to put the work in both on and off the field.

Finally, we will be fine. Coach Jones always makes things happen. Even if the appeals fail, we have a depth in our roster that is as of yet untapped and one of the best recruiting classes in decades. Stop worrying about things that you are merely speculating on. Beyond that, the kids that are failing brought it on themselves and need to reevaluate their priorities. If they wanted to party and not have to go to class, then they should have gone to the U or a state school where that is possible. SMU is an academic institution and is starting to rebuild itself into a football powerhouse. It is a balance that is going to take time to perfect. Be patient and trust the process. They are students first and Coach Jones will even say that.

My version is the fact that I have been skipping football practice all season... and now I have to dress for a game and try to sneak in and hope nobody notices.

I usually wake up before I find out how it worked out for me.

I've had this dream so many times, I have to remind myself I actually attended all practices my senior year.

My recurring nightmare is that I am back in Boot Camp at Parris Island! No one in my dream will believe me when I tell them I've been thru that hell once already and should not be there!

Ditto .....ultimatefan1985. Things usualy work out if a person works hard and "does the right thing". Cheating or taking shortcuts may work in the short run but it eventually will cause a downfall ie the death penalty, wall street bailouts, etc.
