The leftovers of the Big 12 (Iowa St, Kansas, K-State, Colorado/Baylor) OR the bottom of the MWC (Colorado St, NM, SDSU, UNLV, Wyoming)?
I believe it’s the bottom of the MWC.
If Armagedon occours and Texas et al head to the Pac-10 the top teams in the MWC (plus Boise) should join the Big-12 leftovers forming a NEW Big-12. This would have the potential to do 2 things a) make this combo a BCS conference by being under the Big-12 name and b) get the MWC out from under weaker members they cant get rid of because of the current league voting rules.
They would have a 10 team conference with
AF, BYU, CSU, TCU, UT, Kansas, K-State, Boise, CU/Baylor.
And they add…
SMU & U of H.
and we are in.

That's nine teams unless you expect both Baylor and CU to be leftout of the PAC16. The big five of the MWC (didn't that include New Mexico?) have been known to leave their conference mates behind in the past, so what you suggest is a definite, if remote, possibility.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

won't be an issue for Kansas, but I believe you must have at least 6 schools that have playing together for a certain number of years to be eligible for automatic bid to the NCAA bball tourney. If the Big XII loses 8 members, that conference is toast.

If six schools from MWC join the "big 12" you would have at least six schools that have been playing together for umpteen years...right?

I love this scenario, taken from another thread. Seems to be the basic jist of what people are saying here. This would be the SMU dream scenario to me. expony18 wrote: I really hope when the dust settles we have a division or conference that includes: Houston, Rice, Baylor, Tulsa, KU, K-state, and maybe Tulane. Of course, I would love to have TCU in there but I don't see it happening.
