Clearly one of those friends of the Big East is Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins, who held the same post at UConn and is still very well thought of throughout the conference. He could be a major player in putting together a deal that would land Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Missouri and Baylor in the Big East.

Are you saying you're not sure UNLV will get into the Mtn West?

I think we will be looked at as better additions to wherever then Baylor, UNLV, or Iowa State - this is a new day and none of this is based on the past - with the exception of the win loss record that can help the qualifying cause.

Question - if the Big 12 stays as the Big 12 - keeps the official designation - does it automatically stay a qualifying conference and if so for how long? Does it matter who they add as far as qualification for BSC membership in the short term?

I cannot imagine that Baylor would get a Big East berth. Going to Wacko would be like traveling to Siberia for those eastern schools. Kansas and Missouri might be a good fit.

No we're talking about if the Big 12 Leftovers retain leverage because of buyout, BCS tie-in and essentially chooses the top teams from the MWC. If the MWC sticks together its going to be tough unless the MWC goes to at least 14 and more likely 16

If Utah leaves, the MWC is still in a good position to invite Kansas, KSU and Missou to get to 12 members. The Big XII group might prefer to try and salvage their own conference, but they won't have the requisite 6 members who have played together for 5 years - so no auto bid to March Madness.

This is going to get interesting

Looks like a chance we could reunite with Baylor. That's a good thing as far as I am concerned.

Big 12 survival prediction. CUSA raid.

http://www.herald-dispatch.com/sports/x ... redictable

What isn't being taken into consideration is the Big 12's considerable resources. Even if seven schools leave, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, Baylor and Missouri still have a powerful bargaining chip.

According to NCAA by-laws, all revenue from the NCAA men's basketball tournament stays with the conference. So, departing Big 12 members would forfeit their share. And that's considerable considering the Big 12's recent success.

That would amount to a war chest rumored to be as large as $17 million for the remaining members, not to mention exit fees. So, it's more likely that the remaining Big 12 schools would raid other leagues for replacements.

For example, it easily could lure TCU, Houston, SMU, Brigham Young, Boise State, Utah and, perhaps, Tulsa.

The Big 12 could survive, but the WAC or Mountain West might dissolve.
