Tubs on Tech

Postby ponydawg » Wed Jul 28, 2010 9:23 am

Tubs spoke in Las Colinas. Interesting highlights "D has a long way to go" and "running a play on O every 15 secs to confuse and tire defense".

Below are the quotes from the raider board.

Ok, first thing first, I'm a Leacher.

I went to the Las Colinas Country Club to listen to Tubs speak. I'm glad I did. He is not as bad as I had thought.
He spoke for about 30min and here is what I took away from it.

Really nice/good guy.

He is going to promote the Tech brand as never before. No matter what we will receive a ton of promotion from him which is great for the University.

He is a classy guy and had all the players in suits and ties for the "media days,” he believes image is extremely important.
The offense: he finally convinced me that the O will not change much (I was VERY concerned about this and now I am no longer which is a big relief to me) we will have the fastest running offense in the nation. He mentioned something about running a play every 15 seconds. The purpose of this is to confuse and tire out the defense.
The Defense: this is an area that he will focus on like we’ve not seen before. I know that is not a surprise but what I did find amazing was his candor about the D. He said we don’t have the players this season to run it the way he wants to do it. On D we won’t be very good this year and have a long ways to go. Their doing what it takes to have a great D but it won’t be this year so be patient.
Side note: our second string will play a lot!! Coach will run 1st string about 60% of the time and 2nd string 40% of the time. He said he wants to do this so we have “fresh legs” late in the game.
He is working the hell out of the team; he said the O line has lost about 250lbs between all of them. He wants fast linemen not necessarily big linemen.

I am really glad that I went I feel so much better about our team. If you ever get the chance to see him speak do!

I was there also. Great speech and presence by Coach. Good points above. I will try to hit a few more. He mentioned that he plans on playing 50-55 players a game. He felt really good about the offense, the kicking game....but mentioned the D have a ways to go. Said players such as Scott Smith coming in late put them behind others, who may not be as talented. Said that the physical conditioning actually takes about one year to complete what each player needs to improve. So, one year from now we will be much more physical. Coach mentioned he liked free weights much better than machines and worked the legs much more than before. Mentioned that the two deep offensive line had loat a cumaltive 250 pounds, as was pointed out above. He really likes Batch and said Eric Stephens was very good also. Said really good three deep at running back, but did not mention the third back.
